7550 Guide Specifications:

Modified Bitumen/Cap Sheet Roof System

F. Substitution

1. When a particular make or trade name is specified, it shall indicate the standard required. Bidders proposing substitutions shall submit the following (10) days prior to bid date to owner/architect:

a. Written application with explanation of why substitution should be considered.

b. Manufacturer’s literature and samples of requested substitutions.

c. Three (3) job references available for inspection, within fifty (50) miles (80.5 km) of owner/architect where substitutes were used under similar conditions.

2. Only substitutes approved in writing by owner/architect prior to scheduled bid date will be considered.

G. Submittals

1. Submit product data under provisions of Section [01300.] [01340.]

2. Submit product data indicating membrane and asphaltic materials and base flashing materials.

3. Submit samples under provisions of Section [01300.] [01340.]

4. Submit two samples of roofing materials to be used, samples to be standard factory samples.

5. Submit manufacturer’s installation instructions under provisions of Section [01300.] [01340.]

6. Submit manufacturer’s certification under provisions of Section [01400] [01405] that products are physically and chemically compatible with each other and meet listed ASTM or Federal Specification.

H. Quality Assurance

1. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing the products specified in this Section, with minimum 10 years experience.

2. Applicator: Company specializing in applying bituminous roofing, with minimum 5 years documented experience and approved by materials manufacturer.

3. Work of this section to conform to manufacturer’s instructions and NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual.

I. Regulatory Requirements

1. Fire Hazard Classification: UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Class [A] [B] [C].

2. Factory Mutual Research Corporation (FM) Class [1A-60] [1A-90] [1B-60] [1B-90].

J. Pre-Installation Conference

1. Convene a pre-installation conference one week prior to commencing work of this section, under provisions of Section [01200.] [01220.]

2. Review installation procedures and coordination required with related work.

K. Delivery, Storage and Handling

1. Deliver products to site under provisions of Section [01600.] [01610.]

2. Store and protect products under provisions of Section [01600.] [01620.] and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3. Deliver products in manufacturer’s original containers, dry, undamaged, with seals and labels intact.

4. Store products in weather-protected environment, clear of ground and moisture. [Protect foam insulation from direct sunlight exposure.]

5. Stand roll materials on end.

L. Environmental Requirements

1. Do not apply roofing system during inclement weather.

2. Do not apply roofing system to damp or frozen deck surface.

M. Sequencing and Scheduling

1. Coordinate work under provisions of Section [01005.] [01040.] [01041.]

2. Coordinate the work of installing associated metal flashings as the work of this section proceeds.

N. Warranty

1. Provide two-year workmanship warranty under provisions of Section [01700.] [01740.]

O. Manufacturer’s Guarantee

1. Provide a manufacturer‘s guarantee covering both material and workmanship. Roof Guarantee shall be for a period of [5] [10] [15] [20] years and shall [have a limited penal sum of $100] [be an NDL guarantee and have a No Dollar   Limit penal sum].
