Ultra Fast® Fasteners and Plates

Description
UltraFast Mechanical Fasteners for
roof insulation are #12 diameter, hex washer head fasteners with a modified buttress
thread form, "X"-point tip and blue Climaseal® Premium
Coating. UltraFast is manufactured from case hardened steel and coated with SPEX, a
polymer coating. A second, metal filled, premium, polymer coating called Climaseal is then
applied over the SPEX coating.
UltraFast Locking Plastic Plates are
blue, 3" (76 mm) round, high strength polyolefin plates with a patented locking
feature for use with UltraFast Fasteners.
UltraFast Galvalume Metal Plates are
3" (76 mm) square, premium Galvalume metal plates for use with UltraFast Fasteners.
GlasFast Plastic Plates are
red, 3" (76 mm) octagonal, high strength polyolefin plates with a recess cavity for
the fastener head. They are strictly for use with Johns Manville (JM) Fiber Glass Roof
Insulation.
Use
UltraFast Fasteners and Plates are used to
attach roof insulation to either metal (16-22 gauge [1.5 mm - 0.8 mm]), or wood decks. The
screw and plate system provides positive attachment and resistance to up-lift forces.
UltraFast Mechanical Fasteners for roof insulation are the fasteners approved to install
JM roof insulation within any JM Roofing System Guarantee, either penal sum or NDL.

Application
UltraFast Fasteners shall be installed
through UltraFast Metal or Locking Plastic Plates at Factory Mutual usage rates and
patterns appropriate for the size and type of insulation. An ITW Buildex Accudrive
XL or a standard screwgun with a disengaging clutch should be used to install UltraFast
Fasteners. The screwgun should have an RPM range of 1,800 - 2,500 only. UltraFast
must penetrate the metal flange a minimum of 3/4"
(19 mm). UltraFast is fully seated when the head is tight against the metal plate,
or snaps into the UltraFast Locking Plastic Plates. UltraFast should not be overdriven as
to cause the plate surface to deflect more than 1/16"
(1.6 mm). Overdriven fasteners will significantly reduce fastener and plate performance
and corrosion resistance and/or strip the deck. Cupped plates, caused by overdriving
fasteners, will also damage the membrane. Underdriven fasteners will not distribute the
load over the plate properly. For steel decks, Factory Mutual requires that the
fastener penetrates the deck at the top flange.
Sizes
Available in a wide range of screw lengths,
ranging from 15/8" (41 mm) for insulation thicknesses of
½" to 7/8" (13 to 22 mm) up to 14" (356 mm) for
thicknesses up to 10¼" to 13¼" (260 to 337 mm). UltraFast Galvalume
Metal Plates 3" (76 mm) square. UltraFast Locking Plastic Plates for
roof insulation blue, 3" (76 mm) round, high strength polyolefin plastic.
GlasFast Plastic Plates for fiber glass roof insulation are red, 3" (76 mm),
octagonal, high strength polyolefin plastic.

Ultra Grip Fasteners

Description
UltraGrip Mechanical Fasteners for
roof insulation are #12 and #14 diameter, #3 Phillips head, "X"-Point fasteners,
with a black SPEX coating. They are manufactured from case hardened steel.
UltraFast Locking Plastic Plates are
blue, 3" (76 mm) round, high strength polyolefin plates with a patented locking
feature for use with UltraGrip Fasteners.
UltraFast Galvalume Metal Plates are
3" (76 mm) square, premium Galvalume metal plates for use with UltraGrip Fasteners.
Use
#12 and #14 UltraGrip Fasteners and Plates
are used to attach roof insulation to either metal (18-22 gauge [1.2 mm - 0.8 mm]) or wood
decks. The screw and plate system provides positive attachment and resistance to uplift
forces. UltraGrip Fasteners shall be installed through metal or plastic plates in
Factory Mutual usage rates and patterns appropriate for the size and type of insulation.

Application

will not distribute the load over the plate properly. For steel decks, Factory
Mutual requires that the fastener penetrates the deck at the top flange.
Sizes
Available in a wide range of lengths from 15/8" (41 mm) to 14" (356 mm) for insulation
thicknesses ranging from ½" (13 mm) up to 13" (330 mm). UltraFast
Galvalume Metal Plates 3" (76 mm) square. UltraFast Locking Plastic
Plates for roof insulation blue, 3" (76 mm) round, high strength
polyolefin plastic.

CD-10 Fasteners and Plates

Description
CD-10 Fasteners are a
.215" (5.5 mm) split-shank, hammer-in, non-threaded fastener with a CR-10 coating,
meeting FM-4470 corrosion requirements. CD-10 has a flat head with a .435" (11 mm)
diameter, and a 45° diamond starter point. The shank has a specially designed split bulb
to provide maximum holding strength into a structural concrete substrate.
Stress Plates. CD-10 Metal
Plate is a 3" (76 mm) round, Galvalume metal plate. The plastic plate for roof
insulation is a 3" (76 mm) round, high-strength polypropylene.
Use
CD-10 Fasteners and Plates are designed for
the installation of roof insulation to structural concrete roof decks. The fastener and
plate system provides positive attachment and resistance to up-lift forces.
Advantages
- CD-10 may be included within the Johns
Manville (JM) Roofing Systems Guarantees when used with JM Roof Insulation. CD-10 is
Factory Mutual and Dade County Approved.
- The CR-10 coating exceeds the corrosion

Application
A pilot hole should be drilled through the
insulation into the concrete deck using a standard hammerdrill or rotary hammer. The hole
should be drilled a minimum of ½" (13 mm) deeper than the required embedment of the
CD-10 anchors. A minimum 2 lb. (0.91 kg) sledge hammer should then be used to drive
the CD-10 anchor through the plate and insulation and into the concrete deck. Minimum
required embedment of the CD-10 anchors is 1" (25 mm) in the concrete. Care must be
exercised not to overdrive the fastener, causing damage to the insulation.
Sizes
Available in a wide range of lengths from
2" (51 mm) for insulation up to 1" (25 mm) in thickness to 9" (229 mm) in
length for insulation up to 8" (203 mm) thick. Packaged in 500 fasteners per
carton and 1000 plates per carton.

NTB 1H & 2H Fasteners

Description
NTB is a 3/4" (19 mm) diameter, glass reinforced nylon
fastener with a double internal hex drive. It is available with or without the locking
wire barbs. NTB-1H has a 1" (25 mm) diameter head. NTB-2H has a 2" (51 mm)
diameter head. Both products must be used with stress plates, either metal or plastic.
NTB Metal Plate is a 3"
(76 mm) round, Galvalume metal plate, for use with NTB-1H and plastic plates are 3"
(76 mm) round for use with NTB-2H.
Use
NTB is a specialty fastener for fastening
roof insulation to either cementitious wood fiber or gypsum roof decks. The fastener and
plate system provides positive attachment and resistance to up-lift forces. A
pullout test to determine the integrity of the deck is required for all NTB installations.

Application
NTB Fasteners should be installed using a
heavy-duty, variable speed drill with an NTB Eliminator drill attachment. Installation at
low rpm is recommended. To install NTB into cementitious wood fiber decking, simply
position the plate over the insulation and drive the fastener through the plate into the
deck. In a gypsum deck, pre-drilling a 7/16"
(11 mm) pilot hole is required (depending on substrate hardness, a 9/16" [14 mm] pilot hole may be required). The
pilot hole should be a minimum of ½" (13 mm) deeper than the required embedment into
the deck. Minimum fastener spacing should be the FM usage rates and patterns appropriate
for the size and type of insulation. More fasteners may be needed based on pullout tests,
as deck pull strengths vary. Minimum recommended embedment for NTB fasteners is 1½"
(38 mm) into the deck material. The NTB fasteners should not penetrate the underside of
the deck.
Sizes
Available in lengths from 2½" (64 mm)
for insulation up to 1" (25 mm) in thickness to 7½" (191 mm) in length for
insulation up to 6" (152 mm) in thickness. Packaged in 500 (up to 5" [127
mm] and 250 over 5" [127 mm]) fasteners per carton and 1000 plates per carton
(separate).

Lightweight Concrete (LWC) C R Base Sheet
Fasteners

Description
LWC CR Base Sheet Fasteners are
twin legged, expanding base sheet fasteners. They are designed for the attachment of base
sheets to lightweight, insulating concrete roof decks. They are manufactured from G-90
galvanized steel and are coated with CR-10, a fluoropolymer coating which meets the
Factory Mutual Approval Standard 4470. The head diameter is 11/8"
(29 mm) and the leg length is 13/4" (44 mm). A 23/4"
(70 mm) Galvalume® plate is available for maximum wind uplift
resistance. The LWC CR Base Sheet Fastener is available pre-assembled with the Galvalume
plate for faster, more economical installation.
Use
LWC CR Base Sheet Fastener is used to
attach venting and other base and approved ply sheets to lightweight, insulating concrete
roof decks. The minimum deck thickness is 2" (51 mm). Pullout tests should be
conducted to determine actual retention strength into the lightweight concrete deck.
Minimum pullout value is 40 pounds force (178 N). The fastener provides positive
attachment and resistance to up-lift forces.

Application
Lightweight, insulating concrete substrates
must be cured, dry, and smooth prior to installation of the roofing assembly. LWC CR Base
Sheet Fasteners should be installed perpendicular to the substrate surface for best
results. The fasteners are to be driven through the base sheet into the lightweight
concrete deck with a wooden or rubber mallet. For Factory Mutual approval, the
following fastening pattern must be followed. The side laps are secured 9" (229 mm)
on center, and the center of the sheet is secured with two staggered rows of fasteners
11" (279 mm) apart, fastened 18" (457 mm) on center. FM I-90 approval
required the use of the 23/4" (70 mm) plates. The LWC CR Base Sheet
Fastener without the plate can achieve FM I-60 approval when fastened in accordance with
the approved fastening pattern.
Sizes
LWC CR Base Sheet Fasteners are packaged in
cartons of 1000. Galvalume Base Sheet plates are packaged in cartons of 1000.
The pre-assembled fasteners are packaged in cartons of 500. Shipping weights
are as follows: LWC CR Base Sheet Fastener = 20 lb. (9 kg)/ctn. Galvalume Base
Sheet Plate = 24 lb. (11 kg)/ctn. Assembled LWC CR Fastener = 22 lb. (10 kg)/ctn.

Ultra Fast® ASAP Fasteners

Description
UltraFast ASAP (Assembled Screw And
Plate) for roof insulation is a #12 diameter fastener, with two coatings of
CR-10B, meeting FM #4470 corrosion requirements. The fastener has 12.5 threads per inch
(12.5 threads per 25 mm) with a 0.215" (5.5 mm) nominal thread diameter, and a 30°
(0.5 rad.) spade point. UltraFast ASAP Fasteners are preassembled with a Factory
Mutual approved, UltraFast 3" (76 mm) Locking Plastic Plate. The UltraFast Locking
Plastic Plates are 3" (76 mm) round, high strength polypropylene plates with a
locking feature.
Use
UltraFast ASAP Fasteners are used to attach
roof insulation to either metal (18-22 gauge [1.2 mm - 0.8 mm]) or wood decks. The
preassembled screw and plate system provides positive attachment and resistance to up-lift

overdriven as to cause the plate surface to deflect more than 1/16"
(1.6 mm). Over-driven fasteners will significantly reduce fastener and plate performance,
possibly damaging the membrane, decrease corrosion resistance and/or strip the deck.
Underdriven or overdriven fasteners will not distribute the load over the plate
properly. For steel decks, Factory Mutual requires that the fastener penetrates the
deck at the top flange.

Fasteners

Description
UltraFast Pre-Assembled
Fastener (Assembled Screw and Plate) for roof insulation is a #12 diameter,
hex washer head fastener with a modified buttress thread form, "X"-point tip and
blue Climaseal Premium coating. The fastener has 12.5 threads per inch (12.5 threads per
25 mm) with a 0.210" (5.3 mm) nominal thread diameter, and a 30 degree (0.5 rad.)
spade point. UltraFast is manufactured from case hardened steel and coated with
SPEX, a polymer coating. A second, metal filled, premium polymer coating, Climaseal, is
then applied over the SPEX coating. UltraFast Pre-Assembled Fasteners are
preassembled with a Factory Mutual approved, UltraFast 3" (76 mm) Metal Plate. The
plates are manufactured from premium Galvalume metal.
Use
UltraFast Pre-Assembled Fasteners are used
to attach roof insulation to either metal (16-26 gauge [1.5 mm - 0.5 mm]) or wood decks.
The pre-assembled screw and plate system provides positive attachment and
resistance to uplift forces. UltraFast Pre-Assembled Fasteners for roof insulation
