Nord
Board® Roof Insulation |
Description
Nord Board Roof Insulation is a rigid insulation board,
composed of expanded perlite and
cellulosic fibers. The top surface is coated with a modified APP asphalt coating and
polyolefin film which allows for the direct application of heat-welded APP or PAO membrane products.
Application
Nord Board is intended for use as a low thermal roof
insulation board and general
purpose cover board for use over closed cell foam insulation boards in APP or PAO membrane
roofing systems, for new construction over wood and concrete decks, or for reroofing
applications over smooth or gravel surfaced roofs. It is usually mechanically fastened,
but can be adhered with hot
asphalt in certain applications.
When applying Nord Board directly over metal decks, a
minimum ¾" (19 mm) Nord
Board must be used. ½" (13 mm) Nord Board is not for use directly over steel decks,
but may be used over other approved foam plastic or insulation boards in metal deck applications.
Sizes
4' x 4' (1.22 m x 1.22 m), with nominal thicknesses of ½" (13 mm), ¾" (19 mm),
and 1" (25 mm).
Advantages
Environmentally Friendly. The minimum
recycled content utilized in Nord
Board is 25% by weight for ¾ " and 1" (19 mm and 25 mm) thickness. The minimum recycled content utilized in ½ " (13
mm) Nord Board is 35% by weight.
Nord Board complies with Environmental Protection
Agency Regulation 40 CFR Part
248, Guideline for Federal Procurement of Building Insulation Products Containing
Recovered Materials, as a recycled product approved for use on any project using federal funds.
Labor Savings. Nord Board is coated with
an APP coating, which allows for
direct heat weld application of APP or PAO membranes without the need for an additional
base separator sheet, thereby improving cost and labor efficiencies in installation.
Dimensional Stability. Because of its
perlite composition and low water
absorption rates, Nord Board is dimensionally stable over a wide range of weather conditions.
Fire Resistance. Because of its perlite
content, Nord Board offers far greater fire resistance than conventional wood
fiber materials.
Thermal Values

Applicable Standards
Nord Board complies with the material requirements of ASTM
C 728. There are numerous
Factory Mutual fire and wind-resistant systems and specific Underwriters Laboratories,
Inc. Class A constructions approved with Nord Board.
