E'NRG'Y 2™ Roof Insulation |
Description
E’NRG’Y 2 is a rigid roof insulation board composed of a closed cell polyisocyanurate foam core bonded in the foaming process to
universal fiber glass reinforced facer. E’NRG’Y 2 is designed for direct application to steel and other roof decks and is compatible with
virtually all roof membranes.
Application
E’NRG’Y 2 provides high thermal insulation value over metal, nailable, and non-nailable roof decks in built-up and modified bitumen roofing
systems. It may be applied using hot asphalt, cold adhesive or mechanical fasteners.
Tapered E’NRG’Y 2 is the high thermal product of choice for providing positive slope to drain on both new and reroof construction. For more
information on Tapered E’NRG’Y 2 and the JM Tapered Systems Group design capabilities, refer to pages 9-15 and 9-18.
Sizes
E’NRG’Y 2 is available in 4'x 4' (1.22 m x 1.22 m) or 4' x 8' (1.22 m x 2.44 m) boards (other sizes available by special request) and in
thicknesses of 1.0" (25 mm) to 4.0" (102 mm).
Advantages
Thermally Efficient. E’NRG’Y 2 is a highly efficient thermal insulation with high R-value and low installed cost.
Fire Resistance. E’NRG’Y 2 has excellent fire resistance and is approved for use in numerous FM and UL approved constructions.
Universal Facer. The universal facer on E’NRG’Y 2 is suited for use in many different membrane systems such as BUR, modified bitumen
and single ply applications.
Environmentally Compliant. MANUFACTURED WITH HCFCs (HYDROCHLOROFLUOROCARBONS). E’NRG’Y 2 is produced
with chemicals currently accepted as replacements in the CFC phase-out process, chemicals that significantly reduce the ozone
depletion potential. All E’NRG’Y 2 products are manufactured with 141b blowing agents using only HCFCs. E’NRG’Y 2 is in
compliance with EPA requirements governing all materials produced after May 15, 1993. E’NRG’Y 2 meets the standards of the
Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.
Thermal Values
The thermal values of E’NRG’Y 2 were determined in accordance with PIMA Technical Bulletin 101 and ASTM C 1289. Recent
investigations have indicated that reduction in foam thermal performance will continue to occur after the PIMA six-month conditioning period.
The ultimate R-value of these products will depend on individual installation circumstances.
When calculating the anticipated thermal performance over the expected life of these products, JM suggests the use of an
R-value of 5.56 per inch of foam thickness (0.98 m2 •°C/W).

Installation
Built-Up and Modified Bitumen Systems
Each board of E’NRG’Y 2 must be secured to the roof deck with Factory Mutual approved fasteners and plates (appropriate to the deck
type). Alternatively, maximum 4' x 4' (1.22 m x 1.22 m) boards of E’NRG’Y 2 may be adhered to a prepared concrete deck with a full
mopping of hot steep asphalt. Butt all edges and stagger joints of adjacent boards.
As referenced in NRCA Bulletin #9, a separation layer of perlite, wood fiber or fiber glass should be used over E’NRG’Y 2 when used in hot
asphaltic BUR or modified bitumen roofing systems.
Applicable Standards
Factory Mutual
E’NRG’Y 2 has a Factory Mutual (FM) Class 1 fire rating and 90 to 180 wind-resistance ratings with numerous BUR and modified bitumen
constructions. This testing is specific to the roof deck, insulation, fastener, fastener pattern and the membrane. For current information on JM
Factory Mutual approved systems, contact a JM Technical Service Specialist, Sales Representative, or consult the current FM Approval
Guide.
