Fesco® Foam Roof Insulation |
Description
Fesco Foam is a rigid roof insulation board composed of a closed cell polyisocyanurate foam core bonded in the foaming process to Fesco
Laminator Board on one side and a universal fiber glass reinforced facer on the other. Fesco Laminator Board is an expanded perlite mineral
aggregate board. Fesco Foam is designed for direct application to steel and other roof decks and is compatible with virtually all roof covering
membranes.
Application
Fesco Foam provides high thermal insulation value over metal, nailable, and non-nailable roof decks in built-up and modified bitumen roofing
systems. It may be applied using hot asphalt, cold adhesives or mechanical fasteners.
Tapered Fesco Foam is the high thermal product of choice for providing positive slope to drain on both new and reroof construction. For more
information on Tapered Fesco Foam and the JM Tapered Systems Group design capabilities, refer to pages 9-15 and 9-18.
Sizes
Fesco Foam is available in 4' x 4' (1.22 m x 1.22 m) and 4' x 8' (1.22 m x 2.44 m) boards and in thicknesses of 1.5" (38 mm) to 4.0" (102 mm).
Fesco Foam is available with ½" (13 mm) perlite. It is also available with ¾ " (19 mm) perlite as a special product on request.
Advantages
Thermally Efficient. Fesco Foam is a highly efficient thermal insulation with high R-value and low installed cost.
Versatile. When installed with the perlite side up, the perlite facer provides an excellent base for conventional built-up roof systems.
Environmentally Friendly. As a composite, Fesco Foam products meet the minimum requirements of the Resource Conservation and
Recovery Act.
Environmentally Compliant. MANUFACTURED WITH HCFCs (HYDROCHLOROFLUOROCARBONS). Fesco Foam is produced
with chemicals currently accepted as replacements in the CFC phase-out process, chemicals that significantly reduce the ozone
depletion potential. Fesco Foam is manufactured with 141b blowing agents using only HCFCs. Fesco Foam is in compliance
with EPA requirements governing all materials produced after May 15, 1993. Fesco Foam meets the standards of the Clean Air
Act Amendments of 1990.
Thermal Values
The thermal values of Fesco Foam were determined in accordance with PIMA Technical Bulletin 101 and ASTM C 1289.
Recent investigations have indicated that reduction in foam thermal performance will continue to occur after the PIMA six-month conditioning
period. The ultimate R-value of these products will depend on individual installation circumstances.
When calculating the anticipated thermal performance over the expected life of these products, JM suggests the use of an
R-value of 5.56 per inch of foam thickness (0.98 m 2 - °C/W).

Installation
Built-Up and Modified Bitumen Systems
Each board of Fesco Foam must be secured to the roof deck with Factory Mutual approved fasteners and plates (appropriate to the deck
type). Alternatively, maximum 4' x 4' (1.22 m x 1.22 m) boards of Fesco Foam may be adhered to a prepared concrete deck with a full
mopping of hot steep asphalt. Butt all edges and stagger joints of adjacent boards. A base sheet or separation layer is not required under
BUR or modified bitumen systems if the board is installed with the perlite side facing up. If installed with the foam side up, NRCA Bulletin #9
recommends a separation layer of perlite, wood fiber or fiber glass over the foam when installed in hot asphaltic built-up or modified bitumen
roofing systems.
