UltraFast® Fasteners and Plates

Description

UltraFast Mechanical Fasteners for roof insulation are #12 diameter, hex washer head fasteners with a modified buttress thread form, "X"-point tip and blue Climaseal® Premium Coating.

UltraFast is manufactured from case hardened steel and coated with SPEX, a polymer coating. A second, metal filled, premium, polymer coating called Climaseal is then applied over the SPEX coating.

UltraFast Locking Plastic Plates are blue, 3" (76 mm) round, high strength polyolefin plates with a patented locking feature for use with UltraFast Fasteners.

UltraFast Galvalume Metal Plates are 3" (76 mm) square, premium Galvalume metal plates for use with UltraFast Fasteners.

GlasFast Plastic Plates are red, 3" (76 mm) octagonal, high strength polyolefin plates with a recess cavity for the fastener head. They are strictly for use with Johns Manville (JM) Fiber Glass Roof Insulation.

Use

UltraFast Fasteners and Plates are used to attach roof insulation to either metal (16-22 gauge [1.5 mm - 0.8 mm]), or wood decks. The screw and plate system provides positive attachment and resistance to up-lift forces. UltraFast Mechanical Fasteners for roof insulation are the fasteners approved to install JM roof insulation within any JM Roofing System Guarantee, either penal sum or NDL.

Advantages

  • Hex washer head improves driveability
  • Buttress thread design provides maximum pullout values and minimizes fastener pullout
  • Thread length permits attachment of insulation through high or low rib of roof deck
  • Patented "X"-point provides unsurpassed drilling consistency
  • UltraFast exceeds the corrosion resistance standards of Factory Mutual Specification #4470 for Class 1A Insulated Steel Deck Construction, including Windstorm Resistance 1-60 and 1-90 Classification. UltraFast is also approved for use in Dade County, Florida.

Application

UltraFast Fasteners shall be installed through UltraFast Metal or Locking Plastic Plates at Factory Mutual usage rates and patterns appropriate for the size and type of insulation.

An ITW Buildex Accudrive XL or a standard screwgun with a disengaging clutch should be used to install UltraFast Fasteners.

The screwgun should have an RPM range of 1,800 - 2,500 only.

UltraFast must penetrate the metal flange a minimum of ¾ " (19 mm). UltraFast is fully seated when the head is tight against the metal plate, or snaps into the UltraFast Locking Plastic Plates. UltraFast should not be overdriven as to cause the plate surface to deflect more than 1/16 " (1.6 mm). Overdriven fasteners will significantly reduce fastener and plate performance and corrosion resistance and/or strip the deck. Cupped plates, caused by overdriving fasteners, will also damage the membrane. Underdriven fasteners will not distribute the load over the plate properly.

For steel decks, Factory Mutual requires that the fastener penetrates the deck at the top flange.

Sizes

Available in a wide range of screw lengths, ranging from 1 5/8 " (41 mm) for insulation thicknesses of 1/2 " to 7/8 " (13 to 22 mm) up to 14" (356 mm) for thicknesses up to 10 1/4 " to 13 1/4 " (260 to 337 mm).

UltraFast Galvalume Metal Plates – 3" (76 mm) square.

UltraFast Locking Plastic Plates for roof insulation – blue, 3" (76 mm) round, high strength polyolefin plastic.

GlasFast Plastic Plates for fiber glass roof insulation are red, 3" (76 mm), octagonal, high strength polyolefin plastic.
