Section - 13080 Sound Control (Floating Concrete Floors)

Part I GENERAL

1.01 Work Included:

A. Furnish all labor, materials, tools, and equipment, and perform all operations necessary for the complete installation of the Floating Concrete Floor System shown on contract drawings, or indicated in the contract documents.

1.02 RELATED WORK: Shall include but not be limited to:

A. Concrete & reinforcing: Section ___________
B. Waterproofing: Section _________
C. Metal pipe & conduit sleeves: Section __________
D. Caulking: Section ____________

1.03 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. The Floating Floor System shall consist of isolation pads and low density sound absorption acoustical material in roll form, perimeter isolation, concrete pouring form, temporary waterproofing, floor drains reinforced concrete and perimeter caulking.

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE:

A. Floating floor materials shall be designed and fabricated at the facilities of a nationally recognized manufacturer having a minimum of five years experience in furnishing similar systems. The system shall be installed by the manufacturer of his authorized representative.

Part 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIALS

A. The floating floor system shall be Model RIM by Kinetics Noise Control, Inc., Dublin, Ohio. Model RIM Floating Concrete Floor System shall consist of high density molded fiberglass pads individually coated with a flexible elastomeric membrane. isolation pads shall be 2" thick and be spaced as recommended by the manufacturer but not greater than 16" centerline spacing. Pads shall be manufactured from annealed glass fibers stabilized by precompression during manufacture. Pads shall be designed to safely withstand a minimum imposed load of 200 PSF in all open areas, and shall have a minimum overload capacity of 100% in all high load areas. Pads shall have satisfactorily passed WMATA Section 3.49 dynamic test for isolators permanence.

B. 1 1/2" thick low density fiber glass absorption material, with an NRC rating of .87, shall be bonded to the isolation pads, and shall cover a minimum of 95% of the area between the isolation pads.

C. The concrete pouring forms shall be a minimum 1/2" thick and a minimum 4 ply exterior grade plywood. The pouring form shall be assembled with metal junction plates during installation.

D. Perimeter isolation shall be 3/4" thick resilient material as recommended by the manufacturer.

Part 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

A. The installation of all sound isolation materials specified herein, including those installed under other sections of the specifications, shall be in accordance with procedures submitted by the isolation material manufacturer, and approved by the Architect.

B. After installation of the isolation materials and pouring form, the system shall be temporarily waterproofed by protecting the system with two layers of 6 mil polyethylene film overlapped and taped at all seams and connections to the building. After the concrete has been poured and allowed to cure, the perimeter and all penetrations shall be caulked using a one part polyurethane sealant.

All sound isolation materials and building components supported by isolation materials shall be free from rigid contact with any part of the building structure.
