COMPANY PROFILE
History
The McIntyre Tile Company was founded in 1972 in Healdsburg, California, which is located in the heart of the Sonoma County wine country.
The ceramics team spent a year developing their original stoneware field tiles that were prized by San Francisco architects and designers for
their warm, earthy look and color character. McIntyre is the only tile manufacturer that uses the same high fired, cone 10 - reduction process
that is used in fine ceramic studios. The company's vision continues to be the successful translation of the studio pottery approach into field,
trim and decorative tiles.
When the use of color exploded in the 1980's, the McIntyre ceramics team created an entirely new palette of colors for a pure white porcelain
claybody. Customers now had a choice of two distinct styles, stoneware or porcelain. The company also added tiles and extruded trim in the
mid 80's.
McIntyre has always been known for its decorative tiles, featuring hand-painted art work and hand-cut mosaics. None of the mass production
decorative techniques, such as decals or screen prints, are used at McIntyre. The popularity of hand-painted and carved tiles continues and
new motifs are regularly introduced. The company pioneered wet-cut mosaic decorative tiles, which are very effective for small and large scale
graphics and murals. The most recent decorative addition is the carved relief group introduced in 1994.
1994 also saw a return to the early aesthetic roots of the company with the introduction of the California Arts and Crafts Series. These tiles
feature a more rustic look, a textured surface and a hand-finished quality.
In 1998, McIntyre is introducing Provence, a charming and colorful collection of tiles. These tiles feature light and bright colors with purity of
hue.
McIntyre Tile is proud of its long-term relationships with distinguished tile showrooms, architects and designers across the country. McIntyre
Tile is sold throughout the United States in select tile showrooms.
Custom Manufacturing
Every order is custom-manufactured at the Healdsburg plant. The company's capability in color matching and customization, giving individual
attention to every order, sets McIntyre apart. The custom production methods give the finished tiles the beauty and originality of handmade art.
Craftspeople formulate the clays and glazes, shape, cut, fire and finish the tiles. The personal attention to each order enables McIntyre to
product tiles of the highest standard and create unique colors, in the shapes and sizes needed by the customer.
