Installation Instructions
Step 1 Prepare Base
Handy-Scape walls should be placed on leveling pads, approximately 4 inches thick and 18
inches wide, made of well-compacted crushed stone, gravel, or coarse sand. The base course
of Handy-Scape units should be embedded below grade a minimum of 3 inches.
Excavate to lines and grades you've established for your wall allowing for the leveling
pad and unit embedment. Place and compact leveling pad material. It may be helpful to add
a thin layer of sand to create a uniform, level pad. |

Step 2 Position Base CourseRemove the alignment lips on the base course units by laying each
unit on its face and striking at the back (where the lip connects to the unit) with a
hammer and chisel. As you place each unit, level from side to side, front to back, and
with the adjacent units. After base course units have been set, place and compact soil
around units to firmly hold them in place. |

Step 3 Lay Succeeding CoursesPosition succeeding courses of Handy-Scape units so that alignment lips overhang
the back edge of the lower course units and edge joints are staggered with those of the
lower units. |

| Step 4 Backfill As You Proceed Backfill behind each course as you proceed. Gravel backfill and a
4-inch drain pipe are recommended to help with drainage in taller walls. Continue laying
additional courses and backfilling until desired height is achieved. Place and compact
approximately 10 inches of soil over the drainage material to provide a base for plantings
and to help prevent water from running behind the wall.
