Originally, all fixtures of this type were purchased by the affluent  and used primarily over billiard tables. Today, they have been rediscovered as an excellent light source and the perfect solution when a round chandelier is not appropriate. The shape is perfectly proportioned for hanging over a large rectangular dining room table, over a rectangular kitchen island, or in commercial installations such as over a restaurants salad bar.
