The
Environment
NSTI
harvests its Victorian Oak from the temperate forests of Central Victoria.
NSTI's
management and employees are firmly committed to the sustainable use of
Victoria's native forests for multiple purposes. The protection and conservation
of our forests is of vital importance, ensuring that they will always
be available for future generations to use and enjoy.
Victoria's
native forests are managed under strict codes of forest practices and
guidelines set down by the State Government of Victoria. Timber regeneration
and harvesting is managed and controlled under environmental codes which
allow forests to be utilized while ensuring protection of water catchment
areas, habitats for native flora and fauna and special sites.
Of the
8.40 million hectares of public land in Victoria, 1.30 million hectares
are set aside for commercial timber production of which 1% or 10,000 hectares
are harvested annually. Careful regeneration of the forest area is undertaken
through burning and replanting of seeds taken from the same area to imitate
nature's regeneration cycle. Logs are harvested on 80-year rotation, ensuring
a sustainable supply of timber for future generations.
Victorian
Oak is a beautiful and naturally renewable resource. Its use for timber
products and value added processes is energy efficient and greenhouse
positive.
