The
process starts at NSTI's Green Mills where Victorian Oak logs are quarter
sawn into slabs of various thicknesses.
The slabs are then
racked out for air drying for periods of up to eight months until a moisture
content of around 23% is achieved, after which they are reconditioned
and kiln dried.
NSTI uses the latest
technology in its kiln processes and this, along with lengthy natural
drying periods, is a guarantee of accurate and even drying, which ensures
consistent product performance.
After kiln drying
the slabs are skim dressed in order to readily detect features and allow
accurate grading.

stock ready for dispatch. |
Each slab is then
dimensioned to width to produce the highest quality board of straitedge
Victorian Oak.
Before grading and
packing each board is end trimmed to eliminate splits and rough ends.
All Neville Smith
Timber's Victorian Oak is fully dimensioned, skim dressed and produced
by the straitedge process.
