Primed Mouldings
The quality of our architectural moulding has been enhanced with a quality primer. The smooth surface on the front and sides of your
mouldings comes from a specially formulated high solids primer which provides the base for our choice of top coats. High quality paints can
be applied over the the prime to provide beautiful results.
- Remove Fibre Buildup
After fastening mouldings to the wall, you may notice a slight fibre buildup around the fastener hole. This results from the fastener
displacing material when it is attached. We recommend removing the material with at least 200 grit sandpaper on a sanding block.
Coarser grits may leave fine gouges which will be visible through subsequent coats of paint.
- Final Filler
Once any buildup is removed, nail holes should be filled using a quality filler. Best results will be obtained using a high solids filler that
will not shrink after application. The filler should be allowed to dry and sanded smooth prior to the application of paint.
- Touch Sanding
As we do for any wood product, we recommend touch sanding 200 grit or higher between coats to provide top quality results. However,
reasonably good results can be obtained without sanding.
- Final Cost
In most applications, we recommend a semi-gloss final coat for durability, washability and appearance. Use only better quality paints
with a high solids content - many bargain brands will not give the top quality results that you desire. Although many people get
satisfactory results with a single finish coat over primed mouldings, we recommend two finish coats for top quality, durability and
appearance.
Unprimed Nickell Mouldings
Unprimed Nickell Mouldings will require priming before installation. We recommend using a high quality primer. Touch sanding with a fine grit
(220 or higher) sandpaper between each coat is strongly recommended. This light sanding will ensure a better bond between the coats and
also produce a smoother final finish.
