1600 INTRODUCTION/ORDERING
Introduction
Norton® Series 1600 door closers provide narrow styling and installation
versatility. They have clean, distinct lines that blend well with aluminum doors and
frames. Yet they make an attractive installation on wood or metal doors.
Norton Series 1600 door closers are nonhanded.
Non-hold-open closers are supplied with both a mounting shoe and a soffit plate; hold-open
closers are supplied with a hold-open mounting shoe and a parallel arm adapter plate. As
any one closer comes from the carton, it can be installed Regular Arm, Top Jamb or
Parallel Arm on either right or left hand doors. This versatility can reduce ordering
frequency and inventory costs.
These closers have independent valves to control sweep and
latch speeds. And they are available with optional adjustable backcheck cushioning.
Norton Series 1600 door closers are available with
Non-Hold-Open, Hold-Open or Fusible-Link Hold-open arms. They are also available with the
special features of Adjustable Delayed Action Closing, Coupon Booth Hold-open, Hospital
Hold-Open or Telephone Booth Operation.
There are also a number of special application Series 1600
door closers available. Series 1600SS closers are fabricated with stainless steel
components and hardware, making them ideal closers for installations with corrosive
atmospheres. Series 1680 closers are supplied with a narrow profile arm for nonhold-open
installations where ceiling or top rail of door provide minimal clearance. And Series
PR1600 closers are supplied with a rigid forearm for parallel arm installations where
heavy use is anticipated.
Norton Series 1600 closers are also available with a wide
choice of mounting accessories to meet the needs of most normal and many special
installations. Norton Series 1600 door closers afford the hardware distributor, specifier
and building owner considerable versatility.

Unitrol® Door Controls: The Series 1600 door closer is the basic
control component for the Norton Unitrol Door Controls. For information on these

CloserPlus™ Door Controls: The Series 1600 door closer is the basic
control component for the Norton CloserPlus. For information on these controls which offer
