1600 SPECIFICATIONS/U.L.FINISHES/PACKING


ANSI/BHMA/Federal Specifications

The Series 1600 door closer has been tested and is certified by an independent testing laboratory as being in compliance with the Grade 1 requirements of ANSI Standard A 156.4. It is listed as such in the BHMA Certified Products Directory.

Suggested Specification

Closer for __________________ interior (and) exterior doors shall be full rack-and-pinion type with cast aluminum body. Closer shall be non-handed to permit installation on either hand of door. (Closer to be supplied with a standard shoe and soffit plate to allow regular arm, top jamb or parallel arm mounting.) Hydraulic fluid shall be non-gumming and non-freezing. Closer shall have two non-critical valves, hex-key operated to independently regulate sweep and latch speeds. (Closer to have adjustable backcheck cushioning controlled by a hex-key operated valve.) (Closer to have adjustable delayed action closing controlled by a hex-key operated valve.) The regular and top jamb nonhold-open arm shoe shall permit a 15% adjustment (±7-1/2%) by relocation of the forearm pivot. Main arm broach shall have configuration and markings to assure positive alignment of the arm for each type of closer installation. (Closer to be suitable for installation in corrosive atmospheres.) (Closer shall be capable of being installed in openings with a 1" minimum ceiling clearance.) Closer to be Norton Series 1600, 1600BC, 1600DA (1600SS, 1680).

All Norton Series 1600 Door Closers with non-hold-open arms or hold-open arms with fusible-link release feature are listed by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc. for use on labeled fire doors.

*Available at extra cost. Closers can be ordered prime coated only, i.e. (SRI), or prime coated with finish coat, i.e. (SRI) x (DB).

Plated Arms -- Norton Series 1600 Door Closers are available, at extra cost, with plated arms. Consult the Norton Marketing Department for details.

Packing

Series 1600 Door Closers are normally packed for Tri-Style installation one to a box. Included are the closer, appropriate arm for Regular Arm or Top Jamb mounting, for reveals up to 3" (76 mm), soffit plate for Parallel Arm mounting, a hex-key for control valve adjustment, installation instructions, and both wood screws and machine screws for mounting. Hold-Open Arm closers will also include a hold-open adjustment wrench.

When ordered specifically for Top Jamb deep reveals, Parallel Arm with special soffit plate, Parallel Rigid Arm, or Narrow Profile Arm, or Corrosion Resistant, closers are supplied with that specific type of mounting hardware only.

Special Fasteners

Thru-bolts and grommet nuts (TBGN) or sex-nuts (SN) are available to order.
