1601 SPECIAL FEATURE CLOSERS

Adjustable Delayed Action Closing:

Order Series 1601(BF)-DA.

An optional hydraulic feature, that adds a third speed range to the closing cycle. This feature becomes effective when the door is opened and released at any point beyond 70º. This feature is available in place of backcheck in the Series 1601 closer. The amount of time delay depends upon the combination of the angle of the door release and valve adjustment. The valve can be adjusted with a 1/8" hex key from no delay time up to maximum delay times of:

Door Opened and Released at Approximate Time of Delay Cycle
180º 4-5 minutes
120º 2-3 minutes
90º 25-30 seconds

Pressure Relief Safety Valve: The delayed action hydraulic system contains a pressure relief valve. Any time the door is forced toward the closed direction, while it is in the closing cycle, the valve will open and permit I the door to close. This prevents damage to door, frame and closer.

Suggested Applications: Delayed Action closing allows slow moving traffic to clear the opening before the door closer's normal closing cycle begins. This feature can be helpful in health care facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes. It provides sufficient time for persons on crutches or in wheelchairs to pass through a door without concern of it closing. At the same time, it can accommodate the facility's staff with movement of food service carts, beds and other wheeled traffic.

Use of delayed action closers on many doors throughout industrial and commercial buildings can also assist the flow of traffic. Locations where additional time to clear the opening are advantageous are doors to computer rooms, doors between office and factory/warehouse facilities, doors to workshops and to laboratories, to kitchen and food processing areas ... to list just a few.

Coupon Booth Hold-Open:

Order Series 1601 - COUP and specify hand of door. Most commonly used on doors to safe deposit box inspection cubicles. Closer holds the door to the coupon booth open at 15º to indicate that the booth is available for use by a safe deposit-box renter. When the door is opened, the closer will close the door and engage the lock, providing the occupant with the desired privacy. When the occupant is finished with the booth, the closer will again close the door and engage the lock. The attendant with a key can then open the door, examine the booth for articles left in error and reset the door at 15º opening.

Hold-Open is accomplished by a springloaded roller and a detent in a cam. The roller assembly is attached to the closer housing; the cam is attached to the pinion shaft.

When the door is opened to 15º the roller engages the detent and holds the door. Spring tension of the roller is adjusted by a 5/32" hex-key. Spring tension can be set to just hold the door when opened to 15º. Yet, when the door is opened fully and released, the inertia of closing will prevent the roller from stopping atthe 15º hold-open point. Available for regular arm, top jamb or parallel arm application.
