Americans With Disabilities Act (A.D.A.), ANSI Standards

The Series 1601 and 1601BF door closers are designed to comply with requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act (A.D.A.) and ANSI Standard A117.1.

TheSeries 1601 door closer has been tested and is certified by an independent testing laboratory as being in compliance with the Grade 1 requirements of ANSI Standard A 156.4. It is listed as such in the BHMA Certified Products Directory.

Suggested Specification

Closer for ____________________ interior (and) exterior doors shall be full rack-and pinion type with cast aluminum body. Closer shall be non-handed to permit installation on either hand of door. (Closer to be supplied with a standard shoe and soffit plate to allow regular arm, top jamb or parallel arm mounting.) Hydraulic fluid shall be nongumming and non-freezing. Closershall have two non-critical valves, hex-key operated to independently regulate sweep and latch speeds. (Closer to have adjustable backcheck cushioning controlled by a hex-key operated valve.) (Closer to have adjustable delayed action closing controlled by a hex-key operated valve.) Closers shall have multisize spring power adjustment to permit setting of powerfrom size (1 thru 4) (2 thru 6.) Closer to be Norton Series (1601)(1601BF). The regular and top jamb nonhold-open arm shoe shall permit a 15% adjustment ( ± 7-1/2%) by relocation of the forearm pivot. Main arm broach shall have configuration and markings to assure positive alignment of the arm for each type of closer installation. (Closer to be suitable for installation in corrosive atmospheres). (Closer shall be capable of being installed in openings with a 1" minimum ceiling clearance.) Closer to be Norton Series 1601, 1601DA (1601SS, 1680).

U.L. Listing

All Norton Series 1601 Door Closers with non-hold-open arms or hold-open arms with fusible-link release feature are listed by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc. for use on labeled fire doors.
