Multi-Size Power: The closer spring
assembly can be adjusted through a wide power range. An adjustment shaft accepts a
3/16" Hex wrench.
Two Power Ranges: Each series can be
adjusted through a range of sizes:
Series 1601 Normal Power Range Closers, sizes 3 thru 6.
Series 1601BF Accessibility Code Closers, 1 sizes 1 thru 4.
Booster Spring - Specially designed
booster spring is engineered into each unit to provide additional and necessary closing
force for doors which travel beyond 110º of swing.
Tri-Style Installation: Packaged for
regular arm, top jamb or parallel arm installation.
Non-Handed: Installed on either right or
left hand doors for all applications.
Aluminum Alloy Shell: Norton closer shells
are constructed of a special aluminum alloy which is light weight and offers proven
durability.
Rack & Pinion Operation: Provides a
smooth transmission of power, for control of the door through its full opening and closing
cycle.
Adjustable Sweep Speed: An independent
regulating valve, hex-key-operated, permits adjustment of the general closing speed.
Adjustable Latch Speed: An independent
regulating valve, hex-key-operated, permits adjustment of the door's speed for
approximately the last 10° of the closing cycle.
Adjustable Backcheck Cushioning: An
independent regulating valve, hex-key-operated, provides an adjustable hydraulic cushion
to the door opening speed toward I the end of the opening cycle.
Adjustable Delayed Action: Available in
place of backcheck. Adds a third closing speed range at the beginning of the door's
closing cycle.
Non-Critical Valves: All control valves
for sweep speed, latch speed and backcheck cushioning or delayed action closing are
non-critical and are adjusted by a standard 1/8" hex-key.
"Goof-Proof" Main-Arm Broach:
The configuration and marking of the main arm broach help to assure positive alignment of
lthe arm for each type of closer installation.
Corrosion Resistant Closer: The shell,
pinion bushing assembly and end caps of this closer are aluminum alloy materials. All
other exposed components are stainless steel, or zinc alloy materials to provide excellent
resistance to corrosive environments. For standard non-hold-open applications only.
Specify type of installation. Order Series 1601SS, J1601SS or P1601SS.
Narrow Profile Arm: Series 1681 (BF)
closers are supplied with a narrow profile arm for non-hold-open installations. It permits
regular arm installation where the minimum ceiling clearance is 1" (25 mm) and the
reveal does not exceed 1 /8" (3 mm); it can be installed top jamb with a drop plate
where the minimum top rail of the door is 2-3/4 (70 mm) and the frame reveal does not
exceed 3" (76 mm); or it can be mounted parallel arm to raise the closer body 1"
(25 mm) higher on the top rait of the door than the standard 1601 Series closer templating
will permit. Order Series 1681, J1681 x (Drop Plate) or P1681.
Non-Hold-Open Arm: Standard closer will be
supplied with a Non-Hold-Open Arm. This arm is non-handed.
Hold-Open Arm: Closer arm has adjustable
hold-open feature (90 to 180º). This arm is non-handed. Order by suffixing "H"
to the Catalog Number.
Parallel Rigid Arm: Closer supplied with a
heavy-duty rigid forearm for applications where heavy traffic and heavy use are
anticipated. Order by prefixing "PR" to the Catalog Number. The
Non Hold-Open Parallel Rigid Arm is nonhanded. Also available in Hold-Open which is
handed. Order by suffixing "H" to the Catalog Number.
CONTROL OPTIONS:
UnitroI® Door
Controls UNI 1601 (BF) -- providing selectable hold-open,
positive springbuffer stop. Refer to the Unitrol Door Control catalog section for details.
CloserPlus™ Door Controls CLP1601 (BF)
-- providing selectable hold-open and/or a positive stop. Referto the
CloserPlus catalog section for details.
Retrofit Applications --The 1601 serves to
retrofit installations of sized Series 1600 door closers that do not have power adjustment
capability, and which exceed A.D.A. opening force guidelines. The hole pattern of
9-1/16" (230 mm) X 3/4" (19mm) directly retrofits 1604,1605,1606 closers.
Adaptor plate 1699 is available for retrofit of 1602 and 1603. These are closer
installations where thru-bolts and grommet nuts (TBGN) or sex nuts (SN) have been used.
