Norton UnitrolŪ Door Controls
| Norton Unitrol Door Controls General Information Application The NortonŪ Unitrol Door Control integrates into a single unit a commercial grade door closer, a shock absorber and an auxiliary heavy-duty overhead door stop with or without an optional overhead door holder. The combination of door closer, door stop and shock absorber, with or without the holder mechanism provides optimum control of the door for all types of traffic plus maximum protection to the door and frame. The shock absorber is built in the Unitrol arm shoe or soffit plate. Heavy-duty springs smoothly decelerate the door as it reaches the positive stop point. The optional door holder mechanism of the Unitrol Door Control consists of a spring loaded ball plunger engaging a cam nest at the arm's elbow. Hold-open tension is adjustable and can be set to effectively hold the door open during wind gusts or casual jarring from traffic. Hold-open can be engaged/disengaged by a partial turn of the mechanism with a standard blade screwdriver. When the hold-open mechanism is engaged the door must be manually opened to the point where the spring-loaded plunger mates with the cam nest to hold the door open. The door will close by simply pushing it toward the closed position. The hold-open feature will remain active until it is disengaged. Norton Unitrol Door Controls are available with a wide choice of Norton Door Closers for either parallel arm or top jamb installation. The choice includes conventional-size door closers, and adjustable multi-size door closers in either ANSI (sizes 2 thru 6 power range) or Accessibility Code power range (low resistance sizes 1 thru 4). All door closers for Unitrol Door Controls feature both sweep and latch closing speeds. With the exception of Series 78B/F, each is controlled by an independent adjustable valve. Backcheck cushioning is also supplied standard for all Unitrol closers (except Series 1600 door closers with delayed action closing). This feature permits reducing the door speed near the end of the opening cycle. This hydraulic speed reduction complements the action of the spring shock absorber for a smooth deceleration prior to the positive door stop. Adjustable Delayed-Action Closing is available as an option in all Unitrol Door Controls except Series UNI-78B/F. This feature adds a third control to the closing cycle, to allow traffic to clear the opening before sweep speed closing starts. The door is controlled by delayed-action closing whenever the door is opened, and released at any point beyond 70" of door opening. Unitrol Door Controls using Series 1600 door closers with delayed-action closing are not supplied with backcheck cushioning. The variety of Norton Door Closers with the features and appearance of each, permits selecting the closer series to meet the specific needs for each application.
Norton Unitrol Door Controls are the ideal solution for high traffic openings where total control of the door is required. This single unit provides the control of a door closer, a shock-absorbing door stop and when desired hold-open on an elective-use basis. The Norton Unitrol is an excellent control for schools, auditoriums, theatres, churches and other facilities with periodic heavy usage.
