Features
Integrated Door Control: A commercial grade door closer, and
a heavy-duty shock absorbing door stop, with or without an overhead door holder mechanism.
. .all integrated into a single unit.
Total Performance: The Unitrol Door Control offers the same
functions as a separate door closer, heavy duty door stop and holder. They've been
engineered to provide maximum control with minimum stress to door, frame and hardware.
Single Installation: The Unitrol Door Control requires only
the labor of installing a door closer. The labor necessary to template prep and install an
overhead stop and holder is saved.
Door Stop: Steel detent riveted to the Unitrol arm elbow will
permit door swing to within 2° of the nominal template opening.
Door Holder: Optional feature. Spring loaded plunger mates
with the cam cavity at the arm elbow to hold the door open within 2° of the nominal
template opening. Series suffixed "H."
85°-110° Range: Norton Unitrol Door Controls are supplied
with templates allowing installation of door hold-open from 85° to 110° in 5°
increments. Shock absorber action will permit the door to overtravel about 5°, for
positive stop at 90° to 115°.
Hold-Open Selector: Optional hold-open feature is
engaged/disengaged by a partial turn of a standard blade screwdriver.
Rugged Construction: Unitrol arms were designed to take the
shock of the positive door stop in high-use demanding environments, day after day.
ANSI Grade 1 Door Closer: Unitrol Door Controls offer Norton
Door Closers meeting ANSI A156.4 grade 1, under the Door Closer Certification Program of
the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association.
Rack and Pinion Operation: The tempered steel gears in Norton
Door Closers provide long-lasting smooth action throughout the entire door opening and
closing cycle.
Multiple Feature Door Closers: All door closers supplied with
Unitrol Door Controls have valves for sweep speed, latch speed and backcheck cushioning.
The door is under complete hydraulic regulation from the point at 60° door opening in the
opening cycle thru the totality of the closing cycle.

Series 78BD (adjustable to sizes B, C and D), and 78EF (adjustable to sizes E and F).

All Norton Unitrol Multi-Size Door Controls have full feature door closer options listed
by ANSI.
Tamper Resistant Valve Adjustment: Norton Door Closers
supplied with Unitrol Door Controls feature valves regulated by a 1/8" hex-key
included with each unit. The need for this hex-key discourages unauthorized manipulation
of the closer's valve adjustment.
Non-Critical Valve Adjustment: Hydraulic control of Norton
Door Closers is regulated by stable, easy to adjust valves.
Adjustable Backchecking Cushioning: All Norton Door Closers
feature this hydraulic resistance to door opening at the end of the opening cycle. It is
adjustable by an independent valve marked "B" or "BC." This control is
not available for Unitrol Series UNI-1600DA.
Adjustable Sweep Speed: All Norton Door Closers have this
door closing sweep speed control. It is adjustable by a valve marked "S."
Adjustable Latch Speed: All Norton Door Closers have this
door latching speed control. It is adjustable by a valve, marked "L."

Adjustable Delayed Action Closing: Optional hydraulic control
-- of the door closing speed; effective when the door is released at any point beyond 70°
of opening swing. This feature is used to bring the open door to a creeping motion before
the standard door closing cycle begins. This delay permits the passage of slow moving
traffic thru the doorway. This feature is not offered in Unitrol Door Controls using
Series 78B/F Door Closers nor available with backcheck cushioning in Unitrol Door Controls
using Norton Series 1600 Door Closers.
U.L. Listing: Norton Unitrol Door Controls, without hold-open
feature, are listed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. and Underwriters' Laboratories of
