| 1. INTERIOR
UNPAINTED WALLS |
|
a. |
Moisture
resistant drywall provides the best surface for applying mirrors. Today most interior
plywood, particleboard or fiberboard are treated with fire retardants that may cause poor
adhesion. |
|
b. |
Walls
must be clean and dry. Also, make sure the walls are rigid, plumb, and smooth. Seal
surface with Palmer Mirro-Mastic Bond prior to application of adhesive. (Never apply
over previously painted surface or wall covering*) |
|
c. |
Palmer
Mirro-Mastic is formulated to protect mirrors silvering. If unsure of the mirror backing,
use Palmer Mirro-Bac Paint. Also, if mirror is cut from a larger sheet of mirror, the back
edge should be sealed with Palmer Mirro-Bac Paint or edge sealer to prevent deterioration
of silvering along edge. |
|
d. |
For speed,
economy, and proper installation, use the Palmer Electric Applicator to dispense Palmer
Mirro-Mastic. Heating each scoop with the applicator will speed the setting time. Other
methods may not give proper coverage, and can result in uneven distribution and adhesion. |
|
e. |
For maximum
coverage and safety backing apply four (4) scoops per square foot of Mirro-Mastic to allow
approximately 60% coverage when pressed into place. Each scoop of mastic should be the
size of a ping pong ball and will spread to a pat approximately 4½" in diameter when
pressed into place. |
|
f. |
After mastic
application, press mirror into place allowing 1/8" to 3/16"
space between mirror and substrate. The bottom of the mirror should be supported with a
"J" channel, L-hanger, pins, double-faced tape or other device. Large wall
mirrors should be cushioned at floor or base. |
FOR THE FOLLOWING APPLICATIONS ALL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE MUST BE FOLLOWED IN
ADDITION TO PROPER PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE AS SET FORTH BELOW.
|
| 2.
PAINTED OR PAPERED WALLS |
|
a. |
If these surfaces cannot be
removed, scratch or sand through to the original surface and apply Palmer Mirro-Mastic
Bond before using Mirro-Mastic. If these surfaces cannot be easily removed, it may be wise
to resurface the walls with drywall. |
| 3. CEILING
APPLICATION (Maximum mirror size - 16 square feet) |
|
a. |
Ceiling mirrors MUST
be applied with four applicator scoops of mastic to the square foot in conjunction with
permanently installed mechanical fasteners and applied to moisture resistant drywall.
Wood products should not be used. To get the proper application, the Palmer Electric
Applicator MUST be used. |
|
b. |
Be sure ceiling is not under
bathrooms or kitchen where bowl, sink, or tub water could run over and damage ceiling. |
|
c. |
Press into place and gauge
for 1/8" to 3/16" clearance between
ceiling and mirror. |
| 4. WOOD -
UNFINISHED |
|
a. |
These wood products may be
treated with fire retardants that prevent good adhesion. Apply Mirro-Mastic Bond prior to
the use of Mirro-Mastic. Raw wood must be bond coated. |
|
b. |
Unfinished wood products must
be bond coated on both sides to prevent moisture absorption. |
| 5. WOOD -
PREFINISHED |
|
a. |
Remove finish down to wood.
Apply Mirro-Mastic Bond prior to the use of Mirro-Mastic. |
| 6. CONCRETE OR
CEMENT |
|
a. |
The surface must be clean,
dry, and free of paint. Apply Mirro-Mastic Bond prior to the application of Mirro-Mastic. |
| 7. VITREOUS
BRICK, GLAZED TILE, GLASS, AND PORCELAIN |
|
a. |
These surfaces must be clean
and dry, but do not need Mirro-Mastic Bond application. |
| 8. STEEL OR
OTHER METALS |
|
a. |
Surface must be clean and
free of rust, paint, oil, and moisture, but does not need Mirro-Mastic Bond application. |

sealing of substructures, Palmer Mirro-Mastic Bond is compounded specifically for use with
