| "We wanted to restore this inner-city
school" - McGinnis School in Perth Amboy, New Jersey-"to its original 1899
character, at least on the exterior," says Steve Carlidge of Vitetta Group
Architects. When it came time to select new windows (the previous, aluminum replacement
windows from the '60s were literally crashing down - "an absolute hazard,"
comments Carlidge), "we wanted to capture that turn-of-the-century feeling, but we
also needed maintenance-free." The architect chose custom Pella® Commercial doublehungs and circleheads, with cladding in a taupe finish that research showed had been the original window color. Pella custom muntins were also chosen, again to evoke the 1890s era. "None of the windows were 'out of the catalog.' We needed somebody like Pella that could customize the job, with a subframe installation," Completing the picture, the architect specified Pella's unique SmartSash® II System with Slimshade® blinds. Located between the panes of glass, the blinds are protected from dust, dirt... and the temptations of youthful destruction. |
