HINGED DOORS

THE "NATURAL" ROLE OF WOOD

zpel031a.jpg (36181 bytes)
In a building that spotlights wood, Pella® Architect Series® windows and doors with wood interiors - painted or stained - are featured throughout.

The mission of The National Arbor Day Foundation is to promote the sound and smart use of trees and wood. So it's only natural that wood plays an important role in the design of the Foundation's Lied Conference Center. Wood interiors throughout are stained or painted, in keeping with the center's overall focus on the warm feeling that wood products provide. In fact, more than seven species of wood - including such unusual examples as sassafras and cypress - are used for decorative interior paneling.

The project has been honored with the AIA Nebraska Design Award and was spotlighted as one of 20 "energy-conscious" projects by AIA. "It's a historic-looking building with a lot of detail," says architect Albert Macchietto. "We wanted doors and windows that contribute to the overall aesthetics." And Pella's Integral Light Technology™ with the appearance of True Divided Light was "overwhelming." Although there are no outside balconies to access, Pella® Architect Series clad French doors were selected for the guest rooms to combine ventilation and aesthetic value. "You open your door and open your room to the outside," Macchietto says.
