B. FIXTURE LOCATIONS
410-4. FIXTURES IN SPECIFIC LOCATIONS
Wet and Damp Locations. Fixtures installed
in wet or damp locations shall be so installed that water cannot
enter or accumulate in wiring compartment,s lampholders, or other
electrical parts. All fixtures installed in wet locations shall
be marked, "Suitable for wet locations".
Installations underground or in concrete slabs or masonry
in direct contact with the earth, and locations subject to saturation with water and other
liquids, such as locations exposed to weather and unprotected, vehicle washing areas, and
like locations, shall be considered to be wet locations with respect to the above
requirements.

WET LOCATIONS - GENERAL
1. The requirements under this heading are supplementary to
the other applicable requirements in this standard, and apply to surface-mounted and
recessed fixtures marked "Suitable for wet locations".Such fixtures are intended
for installation in locations subject to rain, vehicle washing areas, locations subject to
spray of a noncorrosive and nonflammable liquid, and the like.
2. These requirements do not cover fixtures for use under
water (such as in a decorative fountain or swinging pool) nor in areas that contain
flammable or corrosive liquids or gases.
ENCLOSURES
1. An enclosure shall be so constructed as to prevent the
wetting of live parts or electrical components or wiring not inherently water proof, and
to reduce the risk of electric shock due to weather exposure.
PERFORMANCE - GENERAL
1. A fixture shall be subjected to the rain test described
in this section, applied to the top, sides, front, and back surfaces.
2. A recessed ceiling - mounted fixture shall be subjected
to the rain and sprinkler tests.
3. A fixture found acceptable for operation on a wall or a
ceiling shall be treated as both a wall - and ceiling - mounted fixture.
4. Results are acceptable after the rain, sprinkler, or
immersion test if (1) there is no entrance of water that causes wetting of any lampholder,
other electrical part, wiring, or conduit connection.
