DIMENSIONS "S" Tile (Approximately) 13" wide x 18" long. Approximately 88 pcs. per square. 2 pc. Mission: (Approximately) 7"-8-1/2" tapered x 20" long. Approximately 154 pcs. per square. Baja Mission: (Approximately) 6-7" tapered x 17-1/2" long. Approximately 220 pcs. per square. WEIGHT "S" Tile: Approximately 888 lbs. per square. 2 pc. Mission: Approximately 1,000 lbs. per square. Baja Mission: Approximately 1,000 lbs. per square. FIRE RATING Standard Class "A" SHEATHING Solid sheathing must be structurally sufficient to support tile load and must be at least 1/2" thick. MINIMUM PITCH Pitches less than 3:12 shall be used only as decorative material and must be applied over a complying roof covering approved by the building code having jurisdiction. UNDERLAYMENT For pitches 3:12 and above underlayment of not less than two layers of type 15# felt or one layer of type 30# felt shall be applied on accordance with code requirements. A 1" x 2" nominal wood strip must be placed at the eave and secured with a 5-penny corrosion-resistant nail to properly elevate the first course when clay bird stops are not used. TILE LAY OUT "S" Tile: Lay out roof on 11" centers with a maximum of 15" exposure. 2 pc. Mission: Lay out roof on 11" centers with a maximum of 17" exposure. Baja Mission: Lay out roof on 9" centers with a maximum of 14-1/2" exposure. Note: Special effects can be achieved by randomly combining varied exposure and by adding boosters or mudding the cover tile in field area. FASTENING For pitches up to 7:12, each tile must be fastened with one No. 11 gauge corrosion-resistant nail of sufficient length to penetrate 3/4" into the sheathing or through the thickness of the sheathing, whichever is less. Other approved tile tie fastening systems may be used as alternatives. For pitches over 7:12, each tile must be installed as described above, in addition each tile must be fastened with a tile lock assembly recognized in ICBO Report No. 3362 or equal. TRIM TILE All hip, ridge and rake tiles shall be nailed and set in cement mortar or plastic roof cement. Special Note: All Redland Clay Tile colors and blends have natural color variations due to the inherent characteristics of the raw materials used. To avoid excess color patterning, checker boarding or stair stepping, the installer should periodically check the overall roof color from ground level at a reasonable distance.
