Escalator Systems - Page 7

Dedication to safety

Schindler 9300 meets or exceeds all the requirements all the requirements of national and international standards including ASME A17.1, CAN/CSA-B44 and EN 115. In fact, many of Schindler's forward-looking concepts for greater safety have been adopted by code.

Start-Up checks

All main contractors and safety switches are checked automatically at every startup. Moreover, the zero position of the key switch is checked to eliminate the risk of starting the escalator on reconnection of the mains supply after a power failure.

Active Safety Brake on Drive Shaft

The active safety brake prevents runaway situations by engaging immediately upon activation of the broken drive chain contact on the speed monitor. Additionally, it locks the step brake firmly after each stops.

Direction-Sensitive Brake

Direction-Sensitive Brake

In case of an emergency stop, a much smaller braking force is required for upward travelling than for downward traveling escalators.

Schindler is the only manufacturer to provide all its escalators with a direction-sensitive brake that reduces its braking torque to one third when ascending. This provides a more gradual deceleration.

Handrail Guiding System

Same proven pressure belt driven system to ensure proper propulsion.

Step Guide Pad

Step Guide Pad

A low-friction guide pad on each side of every step keeps the gap between step and skirting at a minimum constant width. This, combined with other Schindler safety enhancements, minimizes the risk of entrapment, and also protects the skirting form scratching. This also reduces wear of the rollers since they have no lateral guiding function.

Step Monitor

Step Monitor

A proximity sensor checks the presence of every step.

Step Axle

Continuous step axles absorb the bending stresses of the step band that arises during operation, and prevent these bending stresses from being transferred to the step chain.

Patented Combplate Switch

Increased safety can be achieved by a switch which detects both horizontal and vertical movement of the combplate.
