Combustion: high efficiency, low emissions
The gas-air mixture burns in minute ducts just below the outer surface of the ceramic
tile. The resultant combustion heats the ceramic and is instantly transmitted in the form
of infrared heat. Because the heat exchange is so rapid, combustion is "cold".
That is, heat exchange occurs so quickly that the NOx emissions remain insignificant.

The combustion process creates surface temperatures of 1650° F on the outer surface of
the ceramic tiles. At the same time, the temperature on the inside of the tiles is only
210° F. This difference in surface temperatures on the Schwank ceramic tile, is evidence
