All Seachrome grab bars and shower seats are designed and manufactured to meet specified load ratings. The actual "in use" load bearing capacity of any such product, however, will be limited by the strength of it's mounting surface and attachment method. Thus, the most important factor to consider when installing a grab bar or shower seat it the surface on which it is to be mounted. Seachrome recommends that it's products be installed using "2" minimum thickness "in wall" solid wood backing material with #10 x 2" stainless steel, phillips head, sheet metal screws, or using a wall embedded 12 ga. steel anchor plate with #10-24 stainless steel machine screws. When mounting on toilet partitions, Seachrome recommends the use of 3" diameter, 16 gauge, stainless steel, "through-wall" anchor disks. Under no circumstances should any Seachrome grab bar, shower seat or residential safety bar be mounted to drywall, sheetrock, plaster, fiberglass, acrylic or other similar "hollow" wall surfaces without appropriate wood or steel backing material.
