POSTAL SPECIALTIES
PART 1: GENERAL
1.01 Description
A. Work Included: Provide mailboxes, complete as shown on the Drawings and as specified.
1.02 Related Work
A. Related Work Specified Elsewhere:

1.03 Quality Assurance
A. 900, 6000, 2900 Series: Universal Pedestal - Are approved and comply with current U.S.
Postal requirements.
B. Non Approved Boxes: Are built with the same quality controls and materials but are not
required to be approved by the U.S. Postal Service.
C. Quality Control System is approved for Mil Spec I and completing approval for ISO 9000
1 and 2.
1.04 Submittals
A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data, installation instructions, use
limitation and recommendations. Provide certifications stating products comply with
requirements.
B. Shop Drawings: Provide large scale shop drawing for installation and erection of all
parts of the work. Provide plans, elevations, and details of anchorages and connections.
Provide installation templates for work installed by others.
C. Number of Openings: Provide the number of tenant boxes, outgoing mail compartments, and
parcel lockers. For Private Postal Use provide number of boxes to serve customers. Do not
count door used by Post Office to access front load modules as a tenant door.
D. Provide numbering plan.
1.05 Delivery, Storage, and Handling
A. Protect mailboxes so that there will be no indication of use OR of damage at the time
of acceptance.
PART 2: PRODUCTS
2.01 Materials
A. Mailboxes: Provide front loading, rear loading, U.S. Postal approved, non U.S. Postal,
or private industry mailboxes. Mailboxes to be installed in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions and U.S. Postal Service requirements where applicable.
B. Doors: 900 Series U.S. Postal Service approved shall be fabricated from high strength
aluminum with a minimum thickness of 1/8 inch, maximum of 1/4 inch (must be specified),
and swing on concealed hinges. The module is built with integral trim; no need for snap-on
trim. This allows for stronger box and front loading main door to be precision fitted to
preclude prying.
Doors: 2900 Series U.S. Postal Service approved extruded aluminum and has concealed hinge.
Doors: 6000 Series U.S. Postal Service approved shall be fabricated from high strength
aluminum extrusions.
Doors: 2000, 3000 Series non U.S. Postal Service approved are die cast aluminum. 5000
Series is extruded aluminum.
C. Locks: 900 Series lock has 3 keys and 1500 key changes.
a) Five pin cam lock or with dust cover lock. High Security All Point locking system on
1/4" door uses five pin cam lock.
Option: Combination spring latch lock must be approved by local postmaster for use in U.S.
Postal Service installation.
Lock: 2900 uses special lock designed by U.S. Postal Service.
Lock: For all other series use five pin cam lock with 1000 key changes. Two keys with
lock.
D. Finish and Color: Exterior surfaces of doors and extruded trim shall be a baked on
polyester powder coated paint or clear anodized finish for maximum protection and
appearance. Color shall be:
a) Silver
b) Gold
c) Bronze
d) Clear Anodized.

E. Door Identification: 900 Series may:
a) Have 3/4" inch high number or letter permanently engraved in the face of door.
Numbering to be vertical, in sequence, starting from left side top to bottom. Numbering to
be furnished to mailbox manufacturer by architect or owner.
Door Identification: 6000 Series will have permanent insert indentation of 2-5/8"W x
5/8"H. Engraved plastic labeling is available at extra cost. Pressure sensitive label
with boxes.
Door Identification: 2000, 3000, 5000, 2900 Series use a clear Mylar label with black
lettering available for purchase through manufacturer.
F. Warranty: Manufacturer shall provide a 5-Year Limited Warranty in material and
workmanship. Normal wear and tear or slight color change are not covered by this warranty.
Lock warranties through separate manufacturer for one year.
PART 3: EXECUTION
3.01 Installation
A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and with U.S. Postal
regulations.
