PAINT FINISHING
INTERIOR
SHAPERs standard matte white (MW) finish for most of our fixtures is a powder coat
paint system. Since powder coat paint is cured at relatively high tem-peratures, fixtures
that are soldered as part of their fabrication must be painted with a liquid system. Because of the high minimum order quantity for powder
coat finishing custom colors, all our custom color painting is done with a liquid system.
For either powder coating or our liquid system (both described below) the parts are
prepared as follows: Steel parts are chemically cleaned, multi-stage phosphatized, which
acts as a primer, and then painted. Aluminum is chemically cleaned, etched and alodined
prior to the application of the paint finish.
Liquid System: Sherwin-Williams "Polane
T Plus", a two component acrylic polyurethane coating system. Powder Coat: Cardinal
Industrial Finishes "Polyester TGIC". This electrostatically sprayed polyester
paint is cured 10 minutes at 400 F. SHAPERs standard interior paint finish is what
the industry calls "matte". Our finish is more accurately an
"eggshell" finish, specifically, 15 degrees off flat. Varying degrees of gloss
are available by special order.
EXTERIOR
After cleaning and treating according to the base metal, all exterior fixtures are painted
with Triangle Coatings "Trilon 360", a high performance acrylic polyurethane
that has excellent color and gloss retention. This finish is suitable for marine
environments. SHAPERs standard paint finish for exterior fixtures is semi-gloss.
Technical specifications for all paint
finishes are available on request. Please contact the factory or your Rep for additional
