Wall Mounted Exterior - User Guide

WALL MOUNTED EXTERIOR

USER GUIDE

All fixtures in this section are suitable for exterior use, although this does not preclude their use in interior locations. All are made of non-ferrous metals, either bronze or aluminum.

FINISHES
Bronze fixtures come with a “natural bronze” finish—see below. We do not offer “bright metal” finishes for exterior use. Clear coat finishes, which are required to maintain a polished appearance, deteriorate with exposure to the elements. The exception to this is chrome, which is available on certain fixtures. Aluminum fixtures are finished with an acrylic polyurethane paint suitable for marine environments.

NATURAL BRONZE FIXTURES
SHAPER’s “natural bronze finish” leaves the factory with a bright hand satined finish. The fixtures are ready to “weather”. They will patina to a warm “old penny” brown finish through the natural oxidation process. Our 220 alloy commercial bronze is 90% copper and will have the same patina as a copper fixture after 2-3 months, depending on the weather. We use bronze for its added strength and hardness over copper. After it weathers it cannot be distinguished from copper. After they weather-out the finish is virtually maintenance free and will endure for generations!

UL LISTINGS
All our fixtures suitable for wet locations have been tested and listed with the Underwriters Laboratories and are also CSA (Canadian) approved. (The C symbol used in our catalog denotes US and Canadian approval.) They have been tested in the position shown in the catalog, and may not be used in any other position. In other words, a downlight fixture cannot be turned up into the rain. Although a similar uplight design may be available as another model number, it may have different lamping, dimensions and performance characteristics.

WET AND DAMP LOCATIONS
The drawings below define the UL designations “wet” and “damp” . Any fixture that is rated for a wet location can be used in a damp location. The reverse is not true. Fixtures that are offered in damp location configuration are NOT suitable for use in wet locations. For fixtures that are offered for both damp and wet locations, please specify which version you want. Use the suffix “X” for damp and “WP” for wet.

DAMP LOCATION
Not directly exposed to rainfall.

WET LOCATION
Directly exposed to rainfall.

LAMPING
Incandescent and fluorescent lamping options are offered for all our fixtures. Some models are available with HID lamping as well. Advanced lamp and ballast technology now makes compact fluorescent (CF) lamps a viable source for exterior fixtures whether for residential or commercial use. All our exterior fixtures specified with CF lamping are supplied with electronic ballasts. These ballasts are rated to a minimum of -12º F (-25º C), meeting performance requirements for all but the coldest climates.
