| STAR PRODUCT NEWS New! 1.75" Stand-Off Clip

By request of Star's President's Advisory Council and
Star's Field sales, a 1.75" stand- off clip has been designed. The purpose of the
clip is to provide a 1.75" stand off, allowing the panel to accommodate thicker
and/or denser blanket insulation. The clip will have the same general appearance as the
standard 1" stand-off clip (NQ64), except a minor detail change at the tab neck and
base stiffeners. The order part number is NQ67, and it is currently stocked and available.
Need a Fire Wall? We Have One!
If masonry is not the answer, we know how a one and a two
hour UL rated fire wall using our StarMark panel. How does it work? First, as usual, you
put up a Star Mark wall panel. StarMark was chosen because of its greater surface area on
the exterior side. Using a 5/8" UL rated wallboard, apply either one thickness (one
hour) or two thickness (two hour)to both interior and exterior. On the exterior, then
apply a 1-1/2" polystyrene board.Lastly, apply an Elastomeric (EIPS) Polymer
Stucco Finish. Advantages are greater flexibility, more surface choices (color or
texture), and it is economical. You can now find this system in the Underwriters
Laboratory Fire Directory as Design No. U651.
New! Short Edge Strip Purlins

Star Meets More Severe Wind
design Requirements of Building Codes
As many of you know, major codes have increased the wind
uplift coefficients around the perimeter of the building. These changes are based on tests
and actual observations of what fails in major wind storms and hurricanes.
To accommodate these changes, we may provide short, partial
length purlins (edge strip purlins). These purlins are a minimum of 10' long, due to
manufacturing limitations. Some conditions may require only adding them at the corners.
Whereas, other conditions may require the purlins, Star will provide, perpendicular
to end, a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" angle support which will be bolted to the nearest
building purlins.
South Florida/Dade County Dura-Rib
Roof Approval
After about a year of submittals, tests and mock ups, Star
is one, of a very few, of the Metal Building Manufacturers Association, (MBMA), members to
be certified to meet Metro Dade's South Florida building code. To date, this code has the
most stringent wind uplift requirements of any of the tests for major codes. Star received
this approval 13 tests were performed. Included in the testing was the missile impact
test, where a 2 x 4 was fired from a cannon. The minimum gauge required is 24 gauge with
5-7-5 screw spacing. The system also requires a label be applied at the factory. Call your
Builder Service Representative or Estimator for special pricing.
| Lockeford Plant Makes Improvements
with Addition of Two New Processes
Star's Lockeford Plant has added a new shrink wrap covering
to their trim crates. This heat sealed, plastic wrap will help eliminate water damage to
the existing cardboard trim crates. This improvement will further protect the trim inside
when the material is shipped from the Lockeford plant to the job site. In addition to
protecting the cardboard, the wrap is covered with Star's logo. This is just another
way of keeping Star's name in the public eye.
The Lockeford Plant is also in the process of adding a new
monorail to their paint line. Once in place, the new monorail will reduce material
handling by two-thirds and will dramatically reduce the amount of prep work required
before painting. Currently, the beams are stored outside until they are needed for
painting. Due to rainy weather, the beams require a good deal of prep work before they can
be painted, and must be stored inside to dry. However, the new monorail system will
prevent the beams from being exposed to mother nature until they are completely painted
and dry. |
