 MASTER BUILDER '98 CONTEST
Reminder, the Master Builder '98 Contest deadline is coming
upon us, quicker than we realize.
Star's Master Builder Awards program is designed to
recognize and encourage professionalism in the building industry. The program supplies
Star with pictures of our builder's projects, which are used in our brochures. It also
gives Star material to use in press releases to various industry trade magazines, which
promotes our builder, as well as Star. Finally, it provides you with the opportunity to
use the photograph as a selling tool for your future projects.
You may enter as many buildings as you wish by simply
fulfilling the entry form and eligibility requirements and submitting to Star by Dec. 9,
1998.

Direct Mail Program early December, 1998.
The new agency is an established, local Oklahoma City

which is a tremendous asset in the management of the program.
As mentioned above, we will be mailing out the promotional
package n early December. So, watch your mail for the newly redesigned program that will
help your company find the Buyers of 1999!
DOES YOUR BUILDERSHIP HAVE A
COMPANY BROCHURE
If so share it with Star's Marketing Department, and it
will be entered into our contest for the "Best Company Brochure!"
Several times a month we are asked by a Star Builder to
share any company brochures that we may have for idea and design purposes. For the mutual
benefit of all of us, we would appreciate receiving a couple of copies of your brochure.
To show our appreciation, we will be rewarding three
winners from each of our three regions with a Star Jacket. Please submit by Dec. 1,
1998, to Tina Fairless, c/o Marketing.
| Star Quality
Continues to Improve Complaint Comparison

-by Dave Rutherford, Director of Quality and
Environmental
I am sure most of you have heard some of the names normally
associated with quality, like Demming and Juran, and the buzz words like TQM, ISO and
ASQC. Star Building Systems has spent time and money over the years on these training
courses and have studied other quality programs. What it all boils down to is having
people at the top that care.
Star uses several different tools to measure the quality of
the products we produce and the service we provide . One of these is to track customer
complaints. We have had the ability to track these complaints for years. We just did not
do must with them until 1994 when Jack Taylor was appointed President of Star building
Systems. Objectives were instituted to improve the ability of the system to track
each complaint closer to the area of responsibility. Any customer's complaint greater than
$400.00 requires an explanation by the department manager. The manager counsels with the
employee and provides a written explanation as to what happened and what will be done to
prevent a reoccurrence. The graph above illustrates what can happen when people care
and get involved. The determination to improve our quality of product and service
has led us to change many of the ways we "used" to do things. Most importantly,
it has improved the relationship with you, our customer. We are not going to rest on our
record through, as we continue to develop quality concepts to continue our improvement in
the future. |
