Composite Stone vs. The Alternatives

Composite stone, the proprietary STONEWEAR formulation of cement, graded stone and long strand 1-1/2" Alkaline Resistant glass fibers, is the material of choice for long term, continuous contact with water.
Alternatives: Precast concrete is steel reinforced. Eventually the steel oxidizes, expands and cracks the surface yielding a rusty stain. Adding 1/4" or 1/2" chopped glass fibers and calling it GFRC is an improvement in strength, but still doesn't get you where you want to be. Fiberglass hates water. It must be coated with a water barrier to offset the eventual breakdown of the polymer in the structural matrix of the container.

Longevity

Stonewear composite stone has excellent freeze/thaw characteristics due to high density of the structural matrix, coupled with the enhanced strength of long strand Alkaline Resistant glass fibers. That means the stone surface will expand and contract without creating structural cracks.
All pigments are mineral based and of the highest quality available in order to provide a generation of service in applications exposed to ultraviolet radiation.
