SURFACE PREPARATION Surface preparation prior to the application of an applied finish coating shall consist of a general surface finish in accordance with the specific requirements of the highway department. In order to fill air pockets, honey comb, etc., surface shall be supplemented, if necessary, by the use of grout composed of one part portland cement, two parts screened and washed sand, graded to pass the 16 mesh sieve, and sufficient water to produce a thick liquid mix, or other suitable masonry patch material. The grout shall be applied using burlap pads, float sponges or other acceptable methods. As soon as grout has taken its initial set, the surface shall be brushed to remove all loose grout, leaving surface smooth and free of any air holes. Surface to be coated shall be free from efflorescence, flaking coatings, oil, release agents, curing compounds and other deleterious substances prior to the application of the applied coating. Curing compounds and release agents must be removed and may require light sandblast or waterblast. TEX·COTE® XL-70® BRIDGE-COTE® APPLICATION RATE XL-70 BRIDGE·COTE may be applied over green (uncured), damp or cured masonry surfaces which have been properly prepared and are clean and free of efflorescence, incompatible release agents, and curing compounds.
