Think "Trane Modular Climate Changer® Air Handler"
The building industry is continuously evolving and
the rate of change is accelerating. Technological, economic, regulatory and environmental factors are very different now
than they were just a few years ago. The Modular Climate Changers standard and custom capabilities can
help you address todays multifaceted design issues indoor air quality (IAQ) and ASHRAE
Standard 62, for example while providing the
flexibility to adapt to tomorrows challenges.
Basically, ASHRAE Standard 62 dictates that the air
handling system must bring sufficient outdoor air into the building,
filter the air and control microbial growth. However,
applying these principles generally means greater energy consumption, larger and noisier units and increased
risk of coil freeze- up. The standard and custom capabilities of the Modular Climate Changer lets you
configure unique "IAQ-ready" air handling systems that
address all of these concerns. Heres how| . . .
Controlling Ventilation Airflow
Directly
Tranes exclusive airflow-monitoring solution, the Traq
damper, allows direct measurement and control of outdoor or return airflow. When applied as part of a Tracer
Summit - based Integrated Comfort system, ventilation airflow can be controlled dynamically
and documented to verify compliance with ASHRAE Standard 62. Factory-mounted and -tested to reduce installation and
start-up costs, the Traq damper also requires significantly less
straight duct than traditional airflow- monitoring
stations.

Inhibiting Microbial Growth
The Modular Climate Changer can be
designed with features that minimize microbial growth
through proper condensate management, humidity control
and easy access for regular maintenance and cleaning, including:
coil modules are provided with standard IAQ drain pans which are sloped in two directions
to assure positive drainage of condensate
dehumidification solutions (e.g., low
sensible heat ratio coil selections, dual- path
stacked dehumidification units, total energy recovery wheels)
fully removable panels, full-size
access doors and access sections in 11 to 96- in.
lengths for easy cleaning of internal components

Complete access for maintenance and
cleaning of unit
Removing Airborne Contaminants
Effectively controlling particulate and
gaseous contaminants by reducing their concentrations
to acceptable levels or removing them from the air stream altogether is key to good indoor air quality. That
necessitates proper filter selection. Tranes Modular Climate
Changer can be equipped with a variety of filtration
options:

A wide variety of filtration options
bag or cartridge filters with 65- to
95- percent efficiency (ASHRAE Standard 52-1976)
antimicrobial-treated filters
HEPA and gas-phase filtration Complete
access for maintenance and cleaning of unit.
