20-80 Ton Self-Contained Air Conditioners - Page 8

Application and Design Information (cont.)

Flexible Horizontal Discharge

Static Pressure Versus Acoustics

Design the system to minimize the total static pressure required from the self-contained unit fan. Typically a change in static pressure of only .5 inches yields a 2 to 3 change in N.C. level in the work space.

Equipment Room Layout/Location For Maximized Usable Floor Space

Recommended Service Clearances

General Equipment Room Location

Maximize premium exterior window rental space. Locate the equipment room in the core of the building if possible. Refer to LOCATION AND ORIENTATION for acoustic location considerations.

Corner Installation Of Unit

Use the concentrated left side connection capability with the front and left side easy service access to design a corner installation. The flexible horizontal discharge option allows simple ductwork outlets even with a corner installation.

Clearance Requirements

Suggested service/code clearance: Please contact your local office if reduced clearances are required.

Side Distance Purpose
Front 42" (20-38 Ton) NEC code requirement
48" (42-80 Ton) Fan Service
Left 36" Refrigiration and waterside component service
Right 9" Minimal Service required
Inlet 18" Provides uniform airflow

Door Location Locate the equipment room door for easy maintenance and service work access. Swing the door out of the equipment room for additional clearance space. This can help reduce the size of the equipment room.
