Features and Benefits

Trane Air Valve Versus Typical Blade Damper Linear performance

*Performance determined using a constant 0.25-inch (62 Pa) preeesure drop.

We Take Our VAV Seriously

Most of the industry seems to have accepted VAV terminals as simply a commodity. At The Trane Company, we believe nothing could be further from the truth. Performance and quality are a greater focus for all products including VAV terminals. That is why Trane has committed itself to a product that is head and shoulders above its competition. Here is why VariTrane is the VAV terminal of choice:

Leadership: The Trane Terminal Unit

  • VariTrane Air Valve

The VariTrane air valve is truly the best modulation device available, Not only is it a rugged product, but it is the only modulation device that provides linear airflow control. Looking at the graph, notice the Trane air valve exhibits a more linear response than the conventional blade damper design.

Linear airflow control is important because all control devices designed for VAV applications expect linear response to their outputs. This means that the Trane air valve most closely meets performance expectations of VAV controllers.

Flow Ring

The VariTrane flow ring is a patented device which is designed to provide accurate airflow measurement regardless of inlet duct conditions. This device provides multiple points of flow sensing and represents flow in multiple axes. This means that regardless of whether the inlet duct is coming in the side, the top, or simply working its way around a construction beam, the flow ring will accurately sense flow. The flow ring can provide flow sensing accuracy within ± 5 percent with a 1 1/2 equivalent duct diameter of straight duct upstream of the unit. Trane always provides this flow sensor, regardless of controls provided, to assist in balancing.

ARI 880 Certified

All Trane terminal units are ARI certified. ARI 880 certification is the only way to assure yourself that the performance data being provided by the manufacturer is reliable and has been tested in accordance with industry acceptance standards. It is like having a test engineer on your staff. ARI 880 certification is applicable to pressure drop, flow performance and acoustical performance. Accept nothing less than ARI certification.

UL And CSA Approved

The safety of your building occupants and your business is essential. UL Listing and CSA Approval assures you that Trane terminal units have been built to industry established safety standards and provides you the peace of mind that you have required safe equipment on your project. UL Listing and CSA Approval are applicable to the terminal unit as a complete assembly, not simply the electric coil or other components.
