*This rating is not intended to reflect hazards presented by this or any other material under actual fire conditions.

Self-Ignition Temperature
Approved materials shall have a self-ignition temperature of 650° Fahrenheit or greater when tested according to ASTM D-1929.

ASTM D-1929
The self-ignition temperature of LEXAN polycarbonate is greater than 1000°F according to ASTM D-1929.

Smoke tests* referenced by U.S. government agencies
NBS Smoke Chamber (NFPA #258)

Several governmental agencies are adopting the NBS Smoke Chamber and method of test to measure the optical density of smoke evolved under both flaming and non-flaming conditions.

LEXAN® polycarbonate complies with the following:

Agency Application

H.E.W. Interior finish for hospitals and medical facilities
H.U.D Plastic bathroom tub and shower units
D.O.T Combustible materials used in transit systems

Maximum Optical Density

H.E.W. Average of flaming and non-flaming conditions must be less than 450
H.U.D Less than 450 under flaming conditions
D.O.T Under flaming and non-flaming conditions:
• Less than 100 after 90 seconds
• Less than 200 after 4 minutes

• Results from small scale Flammability Tests (e.g., Numerical Flame Spread Ratings) are not intended to reflect hazards presented by this or any other material under actual fire conditions.
