Installation Instructions for #30 Snowguards

ALPINE SNOWGUARDS

A Division of Vermont Slate & Copper Services, Inc.

Please call for manufacture's recommended layout pattern. You will need to provide roof slope, rafter length and calculated building design load. If painted material is needed, please provide panel manufacturer and the manufacturer's color designation.

To glue onto the roof with Adhesive Tape 2845:

Clean the area where the snowguard is to be installed with alcohol or mineral spirits.
  1. Clean the back of the snowguard with alcohol or mineral spirits.
  2. Apply the double sided tape to the back of the snowguard as shown.
  3. Press firmly into place.
  4. Caulk the entire perimeter of the snowguard with a very thin bead of sealant as recommended by Vermont Slate & Copper Services.
  5. If installing in cold weather( less than 40 degrees), ask for the cold weather installation recommendations.
  6. The adhesive requires 48 hours to fully cure.

To glue onto the roof with SureBond SB190:

  1. Clean the area where the snowguard is to be installed with mineral spirits.
  2. Apply a 1/4" square double sided tape in the approximate center of the snowguard. The purpose of this tape is to prevent the snowguard from sliding while the adhesive cures.
  3. Apply adhesive to the entire back of the guard (except on the tape) to a depth of 1/8".
  4. Trowel the adhesive to a smooth even surface. Press the snowguard into place being sure to apply even pressure over the entire surface.
  5. Smooth the excess adhesive around the edges of the snowguard back onto the snowguard. Do not remove excess adhesive.

This will create a water tight seal around the perimeter and prevent water or frost from getting under the base of the snowguard. This adhesive must be used in temperatures above 40 degrees for a minimum curing time of 14 days. Full curing will occur at approximately 28 days. All moisture must be removed from the roof and the snowguard before installing.

To solder onto the roof (recommended for copper and lead-coated copper):

  1. The layout is as pictured below.
  2. The backs of the snowguard should be tinned.
  3. Determine where on the panel the snowguard is to be set and clean the spot well.
  4. Flux, and tin the spot.
  5. Place the snowguard in place and heat the snowguard sufficiently to melt the solder on the snowguard and on the panel and allow to cool. If possible this procedure can be done on the ground before installation of panels.
