Installation Instructions for #40R Snowguards

ALPINE SNOWGUARDS

A Division of Vermont Slate & Copper Services, Inc.

  1. Layout is pictured below.
  2. Option 1: Carefully lift shingles and place snowguard in place. Fasten the snowguard through the two holes in the strap, caulking the fasteners above and below.
Option 2: Fasten through a gap in the shingle tabs and fasten through the center of the snowguard strap.
Option 3: If the shingle can not be lifted or the snowguard can not be slid in place, the snowguard can be fastened to the row of shingles below with the sleeve slid up under the snowguard shingle as far as possible. This will counter flash the fastener heads.
  3. Slide the sleeve up over the fasteners and under the course of shingles above. The counter flashes the fasteners. The caulking from the fasteners heads will hold the sleeve in place.
  4. Lay shingles back down flat.

Snowguard Specifications for Slate, Tile and Shingle Roofing

  • At left is the recommended layout pattern.
  • Vertical spacing between each row is 12" to 18" depending on the exposure ( 7 1/2" exposure would yield a 15" vertical spacing).
  • Horizontal spacing is 24" o.c.
  • The first row of snowguards is placed on top of the third course of roofing.
  • The three row layout pattern should be repeated every 15' up the roof slope (i.e. Rafter length greater than 15' but less than 30' needs two 3 row courses of snowguards).
  • Manufacturer's recommended layout is highly recommended.

Alpine SnowGuards, Inc. will recommend bracket spacing and layout patterns based upon the information you provide. However, weather conditions and roof construction vary from project to project. The owner or architect must carefully consider factors such as anticipated snowload, roof slope, and orientation, roof construction and the area to be protected, in deciding whether the use of Alpine SnowGuards products would be appropriate. Alpine SnowGuards' assistance in your project design is limited exclusively to providing the specifications of its products. The owner or architect is solely responsible for evaluating the structure to determine its capacity to bear the retained snow loads.
