JOB SUMMARY
Highlighting this $72 million multi-theatre complex constructed for the city of Houston is the custom-built main entrance window-wall. Constructed from a thermally improved 4 5/8" deep version of the 2600 system, the main window measures 50 feet wide by 80 feet high. Design load specified was 30 psf and 45 psf applicable at different areas of the building. The finish color choice was Wortham Burgundy at both the interior and exterior, a custom mixed Duraner® paint by PPG.

Special design consideration was required throughout the project since the window-walls were installed in front of a 2" x 14" steel bar grid framing system. In addition to the glazing system considerations, the entire steel grid was wrapped by aluminum sheet and custom extrusions, with the entire assembly curved at the head of the opening. In order to accommodate vertical thermal expansion and steel grid movement, a special slip anchor consisting of a steel strap passing through the slotted mullion was utilized. The two piece horizontal design allowed for installation after all vertical mullions were installed and anchored into place, thereby simplifying the erection sequence.
