Vitricolor Marble Finish

DESCRIPTION:

VITRICOLOR MARBLE FINISH is a spray applied, simulated marble finish in a 100% acrylic binder.

USES:

MARBLE FINISH is a durable interior, exterior finish which may be applied over masonry, stucco, precast or cast-in-place concrete, cement block, gypsum sheathing and other approved substrates.

CHARACTERISTICS:

Drying Time - The drying time of MARBLE FINISH is dependent upon the air temperature and relative humidity. Under average drying conditions (70º F, 55% R.H.), protect work from rain for at least 24 hours.

Water Vapor Transmission (ASTM-5-96) - MARBLE FINISH is permeable to moisture vapor.

Accelerated Weathering (ASTM G-23) - passes 2000 hours.

Flame Spread (ASTM E-84) - less than 25, Class 1.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

  • Surfaces must be smooth and free of imperfections to insure satisfactory appearance.
  • Color coordinated Vitricoat shall be applied to all substrates at least four hours prior to application of MARBLE FINISH.
  • Exterior surfaces must not be below 40º F and must be clean, dry, structurally sound, and free of efflorescence, grease, oil, form release agents and curing compounds.
  • Interior surfaces must not be below 40º F and must be clean, dry, structurally sound, and free of efflorescence, grease, oil, form release agents and curing compounds. Painted interior surfaces must be lightly sanded before the application of Vitricoat.
  • Concrete shall cure a minimum of 28 days prior to application of MARBLE FINISH. If efflorescence, form release agents, or curing compounds are present on the concrete surface, the surface shall be thoroughly washed with muriatic acid and flushed to remove residual acid. All projections shall be removed and small voids filled.
  • Masonry: The masonry surface, with joints struck flush, shall be "skim coated" to produce a smooth, level surface.
  • Stucco: MARBLE FINISH shall be applied over the cured brown coat. If additives are present in the stucco, a test patch shall be made and bond strength checked prior to application.

APPLICATION:

Mixing - Mix to MARBLE FINISH for 1 to 1/2 minutes to insure uniformity using a Goldblatt Jiffer Mixer powered by a 1/2" drill, 400-500 RPM, just prior to application.

Application - Apply using a hopper gun. Apply two coats (one horizontally, one vertically) to achieve uniformity.

At sealant joint the MARBLE FINISH shall be trowelled smooth and the joint sealed with a low modulus sealant capable of +/-50% movement. Joint width should be a minimum of 3/4". After application of the appropriate sealant primer, the sealant must be properly tooled into the joint to assure that it is in direct contact with the finish. Contact Vitricon® for specific information.

Clean up - Clean tools with water while MARBLE FINISH is still wet.

Temporary Protection - Shall be provided at all times until the base coat, finish and permanent flashings, sealants, etc. are completed to protect the wall from weather and other damage.

COVERAGE:

Approximately 125 square feet per pail

CAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS:

  • MARBLE FINISH must not be used on exposed exterior horizontal surfaces. Minimum slope is 6" in 12".
  • When used below grade, backfill with well draining materials. Do not use as waterproofing.
  • Minor color deviation due to raw material variations can occur. To achieve the best color results, material from the same batch number should be applied to a specific wall section. Therefore, check batch numbers before applying materials.
  • Consult manufacturers safety data sheets prior to usage.

STORAGE

MARBLE FINISH must be stored at 40º or above in tightly sealed containers out of direct sunlight.
