Electrical Metallic Tubing NOMINAL DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHTS
To facilitate delivery-order in standard lift footages. Wheatland electrical metallic tubing conforms to all provisions of Underwriters Laboratories UL 797, American National Standard Institute C80.3, Federal Specification WWC-563A and National Electrical Code Article 348. Those specifications pertaining to qualities required in EMT are summarized here. For detailed specifications, please refer to the respective documents. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Tubing The tubing shall be straight, have a circular cross section sufficiently accurate to accept approved couplings and fittings. Wall thickness shall be uniform throughout and welding of seams shall be continuous and thoroughly done. The interior surface shall be free from injurious defects. Protective Coating The tubing shall be cleaned so the protective coating will be firmly adherent and smooth. The exterior surface shall be thoroughly coated with zinc applied directly to the metal so galvanic protection against corrosion is achieved. The interior surface may be zinc, enamel or other suitable corrosion-resistant coating. The zinc coating shall be 0.0008 inches minimum. The interior and exterior coatings shall be sufficiently elastic to prevent flaking or cracking when a 1/2 inch tube is bent into a semi-circle with an inner radius of 31/2 inches. The protective coating of zinc on a piece of finished EMT shall not show a fixed deposit of copper after four one- minute immersions in standard copper sulfate solution. Identification Each ten-foot length of tubing must be legibly marked as "EMT" and with its manufacturer's name or trade mark. The letters "EMT" shall be indented into the outer surface of the tube. |
