   Willamette  Introduction

Introduction - Page 8

Mankind has long benefited from nature's most remarkable building material: wood. Down through time, solid lumber has provided craftsman, shipbuilder, architect and engineer alike an economical means of construction. Today, wood continues to be man's most valuable construction material, because in addition to its remarkable strength and handling characteristics, it is renewable. And every year, Willamette plants more than 16 million new trees. Yet along with this effort comes the heightened realization that in today's world man must use his natural resources more efficiently than ever before. Engineered wood products will contribute greatly to achieving this goal. Engineered wood products do not depend upon old growth resources. Timber is more efficiently utilized, and performance is improved, as well. This technological approach to the manufacturing of forest products benefits us all.
