2.02 MATERIALS
A. Panels and Sheets
Panels shall be fabricated in full lengths from ridge to eave without end laps. Panels shall be 12" or 16" wide with concealed anchors that resist wind uplift yet
permit expansion and contraction with temperature changes. Standing ribs 2-1/2" high shall have a continuous groove capillary break. Ribs shall be securely
locked over anchor clips with an electric field operated roll-forming tool. Individual panels shall be removable for replacement of damaged material. Two
intermediate stiffener ribs (minimum 5/16" deep) shall be located in the flat pan to minimize oil-canning and telegraphing of structural members. Panels shall be:
- Embossed or Non-embossed Prefinished 3003 or 3004 H14 aluminum per ASTM B209
- Galvanized G90 Grade C steel per ASTM A653 and A525
- Galvanized G90 Grade C Prefinished steel per ASTM A653 and A525
- Galvalume 40 ksi finished steel per ASTM A792
- Panel thickness shall be 24 gauge, 22 gauge, 20 gauge, 18 gauge steel; .040, .032 aluminum
1. Flashing shall be same material type and finish as the roof panel but the temper may be reduced to facilitate forming. Minimum thickness shall be the same as
the roof panel.
2. Finish shall be Kynar Fluorocarbon coating ( (__) - year warranty).
B. Product Performance
1. Structural-Uniform load capacity shall be determined by testing in accord with the principles of ASTM 1592.
2. Design capacity for conditions of gauge, span or loading other than those tested may be determined by interpolation of test results. Extrapolation outside the
range of the tests is not acceptable.
3. Weathertightness - When tested in accord with the principles of NAAM TM-l. the roof system without sealant in the ribs shall show no leakage when exposed
to dynamic rain and wind velocity to 70 mph for five minutes.
4. (Insert appropriate finish test standards)
5. (Insert Underwriters Wind Uplift Class 90 if applicable)
2.03 MATERIALS - ACCESSORY ITEMS
A. Anchor clips one piece or two-piece units designed to be determined by wind uplift resistance (see load chart). Fasteners in supports and screws installed in
lips shall be fully recessed so that no sharp edges come in contact with the roof material. Clips shall be designed to allow for expansion and contraction of the
roof relative to the structure throughout the temperature range specified in 3.02D.
B. Screws holding anchor clips to the structure shall be: Into wood: stainless steel (or plated steel). Into steel: stainless steel, cadmium plated self-tapping screws
into predrilled holes (or plated hardened steel self-drilling screws).
C. Exposed fasteners shall be aluminum or stainless steel. For weathertightness, screws shall have separate washers with hot bonded neoprene faces, and
poprivets shall be set in wet sealant. Exposed fasteners shall be a minimum #14 size screw or 3/8" diameter rivet. (Note: Aluminum may not be suitable for some
steel products; consult the fastener supplier)
D. Precut foam profile closures shall be black closed cell foam meeting specification ASTM D-1056 grade SCE-41 Black EPT. Field fabricated hip closures
shall be foam PVC supported and protected from weathering by a metal channel matching the roof flashing.
E. Sealant used with the roofing shall be applied between surfaces during assembly with a minimum amount exposed on the completed installation.
1. Concealed sealant may be a non-curing, non-skinning butyl, polyisobutylene or polybutane tape of sufficient thickness to make full contact with both surfaces.
2. Exposed sealant shall be a curing type with excellent weather and sunlight resistance. Color shall be as selected by architect. Apply in accordance with the
sealant manufacturers recommendations.
F. Underlayment, when used, shall be a water repellent material that conforms to Federal Specification UU-8-790A Type I Grade C or D (Treated Kraft
laminate). or HH-R-5958 Type 15 or 30 (Asphalt rag felt).
2.04 FABRICATION
A. Minimum inside bend radius on flashing shall be 3T and all edges shall have an open hem for stiffness.
B. Fabrication tolerances shall be as required by the Metal Construction Association(MCA).
PART 3-EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. Storage and Handling - Protection shall be provided during fabrication, shipment, storage and erection. During shipment finished surfaces shall be protected
from abrasion by a removable plastic film between areas of conduct. Jobsite storage shall be in a clean dry area out of direct contact with the ground. under
cover or sloped for drainage. Protected from abuse by traffic and from contamination by corrosive or staining materials. Stored materials and unfinished work
shall be secured against wind damage. Installed panels shall be protected from abuse by other trades. It shall be the responsibility of this contractor to provide
walk boards in areas of heavy traffic and any other measures required to prevent damage by his own crews and notify the General Contractor of any necessity
for protection from other trades.
B. Before Installation. The contractor shall verify that the structure is ready to receive his/her work. He/she shall check field dimensions and alignment of
structural steel to assure that the roof panels and flashing will be straight and true. The architect shall be notified on unresolved conditions which may adversely
affect the performance or appearance of the installed roof panels and work on that location will not proceed until approved by the architect.
C. All work shall be installed in accord with approved shop details under direct supervision of an experienced sheet metal craftsman. Attachments and joints shall
allow for expansion and contraction from temperature changes without distortion or elongation of fastener holes. Flashing shall be installed in strict accord with the
recommended practice in the MCA, AA, NRCA and SMACNA architectural sheet metal manuals: without fasteners in end laps and isolated from dissimilar
materials.
D. Completed work shall be plumb and true, free of scrapes and dents. Panel ribs shall be on the module indicated in the contract drawings within the tolerance
allowed by the actual construction dimensions. Excess sealant shall be removed and touch-up paint applied to any areas where paint scrapes occur. Any panels
which are badly damaged and in the judgment of the architect cannot be repaired, shall be removed and replaced.
E. Insofar as possible, attachment screws shall be eliminated in favor of concealed cleats or clips.
F. (Insert use of rib sealant for deep snow areas if required.).
3.02 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. The installation shall be designed to safely resist the positive and negative loads as specified below:
Roof covering
Roof ridqes. eaves and rakes
Ridge ends. eave and rake corner
B. Deflection of the standing seam rib shall be limited to L/240 but in no case greater than 3/4"
C. Roof panels shall be able to support walking loads without excessive distortion or telegraphing of the structural supports. For the maximum span used on the
project, panels shall withstand a 250 lb. Concentrated load applied to a four square inch pad located at the center of the panel flat without buckling of the rib or
noticeable permanent distortion of the panel. Supports and walkways (solar panels, radio antennas) shall be capable of carrying the design loads indicated on the
contract drawings.
D. Snowguards shall be located as shown on the contract drawings. Each snowguard shall be attached to the roof panels in a manner capable of resisting a
sliding force to the slope of ____Lbs. The roof panel attachment to the structure shall be capable of resisting a force parallel to the slope of____ Lbs. per lineal
foot.
E. Roof panel and flashing attachments shall be designed to accommodate the thermal expansion and contraction of the exterior material through a ___ of
temperature change.
F. Factors of safety on design loads to ultimate strength of fasteners shall be as stated in the industry standard for the material into which the fastener is driven.
Aluminum Association for Aluminum; AISI for steel; NFPA for wood; APA for Plywood. Allowable holding power for concrete shall be as specified in the
building code for the product and grade of concrete involved.
G. Panel system shall have a Class "A" rating as a deck by Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
