FeatherLite Service Doors Specifications
Part 1 General
1.01 Work Included
Doors shall be Raynor FeatherLite Rolling Steel Service Doors as manufactured
by Raynor Garage Doors of Dixon, Illinois.
1.02 Furnish and Install
All Rolling Steel Weight Counterbalance door work including electrical operators,
controls and accessories as shown on the drawings are herein specified.
1.03 Related Work
Opening preparation, structural metal work, access panels, finish or field painting,
field electrical wiring, wire, conduit, fuses and disconnect switches are in the
scope of the work of other divisions or trades.
Part 2 - Product
Series SC, LC, FF, IF, AF, AI, FP, AP
2.01 Curtain
Lateral movement of the slats to be contained by means of cast-iron galvanized
end locks fastened with two zinc plated steel rivets. Windlocks shall be provided
as required by door size or special windload requirements. Windlocks to be
galvanized cast-iron and fastened with two zinc-plated steel rivets.
Steel Slats
Shall be commercial quality hot-dipped galvanized (G-90) steel per ASTM A-924
and ASTM A-653. Painted with an epoxy primer and a finished gray polyester.
Bottom bar shall be two steel angles, minimum 2" x 2" x 3/16" (50.8mm x 50.8mm
x 4.8mm). Single contact type bottom astragal.
Aluminum Slats
Shall be 5005H34 etch and anodized on both sides to 201R1. Bottom of curtain
shall be two aluminum angles, minimum 2" x 2" x 3/16" (50.8mm x 50.8mm x
4.8mm). Single contact type astragal.
Perforated Slats - Shall be punched with a series of 1/16" (1.6mm) diameter holes
across their entire length which will provide 31% open area per square foot of
door.
2.02 Slats
A. Series SC (Small "C" Slat) and LC (Large "C" Slat) The curtain shall
consist of steel interlocking contour slats not less than 22 gauge.
B. Series FF (Flat Slat) and FP (Flat Perforated Slat) The curtain shall
consist of steel interlocking contour slats not less than 22 gauge.
C. Series AF (Aluminum Flat Slat) and AP (Aluminum Flat Perforated Flat
Slat) The curtain shall consist of aluminum interlocking flat slats not less than
.04" thick.
D. Series IF (Insulated Flat Slat) The curtain shall consist of steel
interlocking flat slats not less than 22 gauge with 3/4" (19.1mm) thick,
expanded polystyrene core included with the entire length of each slat.
Interior surface shall be 24 gauge, primed painted, hot-dipped galvanized
steel cover. The door shall be provided with a vinyl jamb seal and rubber
hood baffle as standard. The curtain"U" value is .24 and "R" value is 4.1
(These specifications reflect calculated characteristics of core material.
independent test results provided in accordance with ASTM C-236 are
available upon request).
E. Series AI (Aluminum Insulated Flat Slat) The curtain shall consist of
aluminum interlocking flat slats not less than .04" thick with 3/4" (19.1mm)
thick, expanded polystyrene core included with the entire length of each slat.
Interior surface shall be extruded aluminum .05" thick. The door shall be
provided with a vinyl jamb seal and rubber hood baffle as standard. The
curtain "U" value is .24 and "R" value is 4.1 (These specifications reflect
calculated characteristics of core material).
2.03 Guides
All guide assemblies shall be fabricated from three structural steel angles. Guide
angles shall be minimum 3" x 2" x 3/16" (76.2mm x 50.8mm x 4.8mm) and fitted
with two removable curtain stops each. Wall mounted angles shall be continuous
type. All guides shall have UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)
wear strip inside of guides.
2.04 Brackets
Mounting bracket plates shall be made from a minimum 1/4" (6.4mm) steel plate
and attached to the wall angle of the guide assembly with 1/2" (12.7mm) diameter
Class 5 hardened bolts. All brackets shall be fitted with a heavy-duty self-aligning,
housed precision bearing.
2.05 Barrel
The barrel shall be made from a minimum 4 1/2" (114.3mm) O.D. x .120 (3.1mm)
wall structural pipe. Deflection of pipe under full load shall not exceed .03"
(.88mm) per foot of span.
2.06 Counterbalance
The curtain shall be counterbalanced by means of a 26 gauge round galvanized
steel spiral pipe filled with steel ballast. The steel pipe ballast shall hang from a
minimum 1/8" (3.2mm) stainless steel aircraft cable 19x7 construction. One end of
the cable to be mounted to a bracket and the other end to machined cast
aluminum drum to create the required torque.
2.07 Hood
Hood shall be 24 gauge primed painted, hot-dipped galvanized steel with rolled
edges.
2.08 Ballast Enclosure
Side closures shall contain the pipe ballast to prevent injury while the door
operates. Enclosures shall be 24 ga. steel as standard - optional 1/8" PVC tube
available.
2.09 Operation
Manual operation to be provided with inside lift handles and locking bar, padlocks
by others, Not recommended for doors over 14' (4267mm) wide and/or 8'
(2438mm) high. Chain operation shall be by means of roller chain and sprocket
(Motor operation available).
2.10 Windload
Series SC, LC, FF, IF
Doors shall be designed to withstand 20 pounds per square foot (97.64 kg/sq.m)
windload. Optional windloads are available.
2.11 Finish
2.12 Warranty
The Raynor FeatherLite Door and its components shall be free from defects in
material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of delivery to the
original purchaser. The counterbalance and its components shall be warranted for
100,000 cycles of operation.
