Part 2: Products
2.1 Aromatic cedar liners:
CEDARLINE (thickness and size)
2.2 Mouldings and trim:
(Specify type) mouldings (thickness and size)
2.3 Adhesives
See panel adhesive manufacturers recommendation.
2.4 Fasteners
a. Nails-obtain locally-4d 1-1/4" small head finish nails when paneling direct to studs,
but if nailing through wall or plaster, use 6d (2") nails to get a solid "bite" into the stud.
b. Adhesive and nails-use a good quality panel adhesive. Use 2" ring shank panel nails
for applying paneling over gypsum wallboard or plywood.
Part 3: Execution
3.1 CEDARLINE aromatic closet liners-wood or steel studs.
Arrange panels around closet. Leave in closet for at least 24 hrs. so panels adjust to
humidity and temperature. Begin putting up panels in the corner you see first as you
enter the closet. Cut each panel 1/4 inch shorter than the ceiling height. Check studs to
be sure they are vertical and on 16 inch spacing. Also, see that a backing is provided at
corners, at the top and bottom of the wall and around openings. Nail first panel to the
wall, proceed with other panels. In humid areas, leave thickness of a dime between
panels to avoid expansion problems. Always nail at one edge and work to the other.
Never nail opposite edges first then the middle of the panel. Space nails 6" apart at the
panel edge and 12" apart in the panel field. When using adhesive apply a 3/8" bead
along stud lines and across bottom and top. Use glue gun. Nail loosely at top to hinge
panel in proper location. Press panel into position and nail every 6" along base. Nail
every 12" on panel edge and field.
3.2 CEDARLINE aromatic closet liners-base layer of gypsum panel.
Apply a bead of panel adhesive on the substrate panels over each stud and a bead
midway between studs. Apply a double bead where panels join. Stagger joints in face
panels from those in gypsum substrate panels. As each panel is placed, impact
surfaces over adhesive beads with fist to assure good bond. Check surfaces for any
loose areas. Secure panels at top and bottom with 4d finishing nails, 12" o.c. and with
one nail per stud at mid height, two nails per stud where panels join.
3.3 Mouldings.
Finish panel joints, edges and corners with mouldings of choice, using small finishing
nails, countersinking the nails and filling holes with putty stick. If mouldings are
prefinished, clean with a dry cloth. Otherwise, apply paint or stain and a clear finish.
OM/OPERATION, MAINTENANCE
No finishing or sealing should be done to the surface, because to do so would seal in
the fragrance. For maximum effect, the closet ceiling and the inside of the closet door
should also be lined. The fragrance will be long lasting. To help extend the life, it is best
to keep the closet door tightly closed. Weather stripping door can be helpful. If through
the years some loss of aroma is noted, a light brushing with fine sandpaper will cause a
regeneration of the fragrance.
AC/AVAILABILITY -COST
Nationwide stocks: 3/16" and I/4" thick, 4' wide and 8' long. Other lengths, thicknesses
and widths may be subject to local availability. Costs vary according to distance from
mill; however, CEDARLINE aromatic liner panels generally cost less than half the cost
of cedar boards and can be installed in one-third the time of cedar boards. |
