BEST®, a leading designer of luxury range hoods, continues to impress the industry with The Sorpresa™ Collection, its Italian-inspired range hood collection. The line consists of 11 elegant, unique range hood designs that challenge perceptions of what a range hood can look like.

Sorpresa, which means “surprise” in Italian, consists of shapes and styles that are designed to make a statement in any kitchen, while still delivering the world-class ventilation technology and function expected from BEST products.

“These innovative styles reflect the sleek and contemporary global design reputation of the BEST brand,” says Brian Wellnitz, marketing manager, kitchen ventilation, BEST. “The U.S. building and kitchen design community, to whom the BEST brand has been marketed for nearly two decades, has come to expect the Italian artistic inspiration inherent in all BEST range hoods.”

The complete line of 11 designs are available in three categories: Island hoods, called Gloss, Secret, Sphera and Vertigo Double; Chimney hoods, called Fusion (pictured below), Intrigue (pictured above), Modulare, Sun, Surf and Lipstick; and a Ceiling hood called Cirrus.

According to Wellnitz, the Sorpresa designs were first introduced in 2010 to the European market at Eurocucina in Milan, Italy. Many of the BEST range hoods are praised as top-sellers in Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain, Germany and Portugal.

“The demand for functional art in the kitchen continues to rise, and with our Sorpresa Collection, we offer options for adding high-end design to one of the most central rooms in the home,” says Wellnitz.

To visualize how any of the 11 hoods will look in a variety of kitchen motifs, BEST offers an online tool, available at BESTsorpresa.com. The Sorpresa Visualizer tool enables designers and their clients to see and share the new design experience.

The Intrigue Chimney hood (pictured above left) has a uniquely minimal wall-mounted design that gives the impression of a piece of floating artwork. Available in stainless steel, this range hood can be painted (from the flue to the chimney) to make this portion of the hood nearly invisible against the wall (as pictured). Intrigue is available for ducted or non-ducted applications, and a convenient multi-speed control allows a perfect performance selection from a powerful 400 CFM blower. In recognition of its design, Intrigue received a Platinum Award in Design Journal’s 2013 ADEX Awards.

Stainless steel and reflective glass meet dramatically in the Fusion Chimney hood (pictured Page 1, bottom right), forming a Yin-Yang connection. The hood, available in ducted and non-ducted forms, includes dual halogen lighting to illuminate the cooking experience. The “fusion” between the two dissimilar surfaces of this range hood gives rise to a natural and peaceful feel in the kitchen.

The Sphera Island hood (pictured right), with its unique orb design, gives the appearance of a hanging light but is actually a fully functioning range hood. Available in either white or black, Sphera functions as a recirculation hood  and meets the need for a contemporarily designed range hood that can accompany a small gas, electric or induction cooktop. Since Sphera does not require ducting, it is perfect for retrofit applications.

Incorporating a major appliance like a range hood into a kitchen design can be a challenge, especially when designing an open living space where clients prefer a sleek look, or when the kitchen space has views too spectacular to take anything but center stage. Now, designers can turn to the Cirrus Ceiling hood (pictured left) for a ceiling-recessed range hood that won’t detract from a room with a view. Linear, discrete and virtually out of sight, Cirrus was designed with today’s open-living concepts in mind. Now featuring the BEST iQ Blower System™, Cirrus guarantees peak operating performance after installation.

In recognition of its groundbreaking design, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) awarded Cirrus as a Finalist in its 2013 International Design Excellence Awards.
