The A-Mill Artist Lofts project was an ambitious restoration and redevelopment encompassing two city blocks of historic industrial structures, including the Pillsbury A-Mill constructed in 1881. Situated by St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River, the 4 buildings of this historic site needed the highest level of sound control available on the market today, Acousti-Mat 3/4 Premium.

The South Mill and Warehouse buildings had a total of 113,000 sq. ft. installed over the old wood floors and covered with concrete. In the Red Clay Tile Building, 21,500 sq. ft. of Acousti-Mat 3/4 Premium was laid over metal decking in which the flutes had been filled in with Dura-Cap and then the mat was covered with concrete.

The system selected for the 96,000 sq. ft. North Mill also included Maxxon's high performance Acousti-Mat 3/4 Premium, but first required attention to the out of level floors throughout the building. Floor Technologies started with Moistop, Maxxon's moisture vapor barrier designed for old wood frame construction, topped with an inch of Gyp-Crete 2000/3.2K to minimize sound flanking.

Polystyrene Foam was laid from 1" to 8" ind eepfill areas, then topped with another 1 1/2" to 4" of Gyp-Crete 2000/3.2K to minimize sound flanking. Polystyrene Foam was laid from 1" to 8" in deepfill areas, then topped with another 1 1/2" to 4" of Gyp-Crete 2000/3.2K to help flatten out any sag in the foam. Acousti-Mat 3/4 Premium was loose-laid over the Gyp-Crete 2000/3.2K, and then topped with concrete.
